Duffield, SASS #23454
Yesterday morning I had to have Habersham (my Weimaraner) put down. He spent Saturday night agitated and in distress with dry heaves and walking around the kitchen table ceaselessly and finally fell down. I took him to the emergency vet clinic and X-ray showed a large cancer involving his liver, left kidney and lung. He had not been able to digest the food he has Saturday afternoon. He had been to his regular vet in early October and again last month and I cannot understand why they did not catch this. He was in pain and having trouble breathing so we agreed that it was best to end his suffering. I would rather have cut off one of my arms. It is a sad day here.
Blackwater 53393
My sincerest condolences, my friend! We’re just now getting ready for another adoption after losing the Boobie, our part pit rescue, last May! We have a thousand memories to make us laugh and smile, but it still hurts to remember that day. You did the right thing and you will remember him fondly!!

John Kloehr
The Power of the Dog Rudyard Kipling 1865 – 1936 There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; And when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie— Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear. When the fourteen years which Nature permits Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits, And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs To lethal chambers or loaded guns, Then you will find—it’s your own affair— But… you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear. When the body that lived at your single will, With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!). When the spirit that answered your every mood Is gone—wherever it goes—for good, You will discover how much you care, And will give your heart to a dog to tear. We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way, When it comes to burying Christian clay. Our loves are not given, but only lent, At compound interest of cent per cent. Though it is not always the case, I believe, That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve: For, when debts are payable, right or wrong, A short-time loan is as bad as a long— So why in—Heaven (before we are there) Should we give our hearts to a dog to tea 1
Widder, SASS #59054
My condolences also. Indeed, most of us have felt the same pain......the emptiness, loneliness, sadness. Even a picture of their paw print brings back fond memories with a large doze of sadness in our hearts. We lost little Benji a few years back. I still remember his playfulness and his eagerness to bite at my hand when I would move it around under the blanket. Its like a dog is a custom made friend from God. ..........Widder 2

Pat Riot
I am truly sorry for your loss. We had to do the same with our dog Maddie months ago. She had bone cancer. We had no clue and the vet did not see it before it was all through her. The vet told us that there was no way we could have known. We just thought her arthritis was bothering her.
Wrangler Bob
My condolences. My dog is my companion through thick and thin. She's about eight; we have a few more years together. I know I'll dread it when her time comes. Again, my condolences.
Texas Maverick
We have lost a number of our dogs to cancer. It strikes fast and hard on them. I don't think the vets are able to detect it like our human docs do with all our testing. Big dogs are really susceptible to cancer. We have a shelf in our book case with urns from our previous fur babies. Take care and prayers for you and your family on your loss. Subdeacon Joe
My condolences. In some ways the loss of a pet is harder than the loss of a family member. I think because there is a feeling of betrayal of trust. 1

Trailrider #896
Sad to hear of your loss. We had a little dog that we treated for cancer with meds for 2-1/2 years. Finally one evening she experienced terrible pain. We rushed her to the vet in a blinding snowstorm to see if they could relieve her. It became obvious that the meds would not be enough, and we had to make the decision to end her suffering. Not an easy thing, but the kindest you could do. it is said that somewhere, at the Rainbow Bridge, our furry friends are young and healthy and playing, while waiting for their people to join them when that time comes.

Dawg Hair, SASS #29557
Duffield, I feel your pain for I have lost several, too many! But I have found that after a short time of grief another puppy will fill the emptiness in your heart. To grieve for man's best friend is natural. Give yourself some time and get another one. This is the only cure. I have never stopped grieving for Binky, Diamond, Akita, Aslin, Emmie and Sadie (all Cocker Spaniels) but right now my 5 1/2 months old Coco has healed and captured my heart. Good luck to you, sir.

Shotgun-Gibbs
I had to have my Labradoodle Nilli put to eternal sleep last January. It was done out of love for her. She'd lost her sight & her hearing. She made it to 14 years of age. I still think about her everyday. Dogs offer us the purest, most unconditional love. I once read: "Lock your dog & your wife in the trunk of a car for 30 minutes. Go and open the trunk up, and see which one is genuinely glad to see you!" My heart goes out to you! I only made it 3 weeks after letting Nilli go, until I had to have another dog. My wife told me: "Nilli saw the hole in your heart, and sent Ava to fill it." I've had a mini Sheepadoodle named Ava since. Prayers, and nothing but the best of memories for you. Rip Snorter
The worst thing, and I did it last time around with one of my Labs, was waiting too long. You love them dearly, but when it is time, some will tell you, others you need to make the hard choice so they don't suffer. The price to pay for dog friends - I will never be without them. 1

Rev Willy Dunkum, SASS # 61027
Condolences just doesnt seem to cover the loss sometimes. The understanding of friends who have suffered the same loss helps. I've been there more than I care to count, Currently our 11 year old Yorkie Standard just had his 3rd major surgery and its tough on him, The day will come I know, and my wife said she can't go through it again. Somehow...we need a furball buddy. I can identify with the left over toys and leash...
