The guys at my local club made me a branding iron to "roast " me at our annual match. The life and times of GW. Got the iron to take home as souvenir. Branded my gun cart. Short time later I was across the state at another club annual shoot. Was running the timer, but noticing a stranger looking at my gun cart. Dressed cowboy but not one of us. Took a break and went of to find out if he had any questions about shooting. He asked about my gun cart. Turns out he was a State Brand Inspector and was stumped by my brand. Nostrum Damus SASS #110702 Posted March 18, 2022 Share Posted March 18, 2022 I suppose my new rifle-length squib rod (sized to run down the longest .357 barrel anyone reasonably uses for CAS, and good for use in larger bores too) adorns my cart, though I'm not sure it counts as bling. It is cool (at least to me) because my friend turned the handle from a chunk of unbelievably hard Osage Orange log on his lathe while I watched. For the uninitiated, properly dried Osage Orange wood doesn't rot, doesn't crack, doesn't absorb water, and is incredibly strong. In the days of the Old West it was used by the "new" Americans to make fence posts and railroad ties, and by preexisting native Americans to make bows. Osage Orange is extremely durable and is considered to be one of the most decay resistant woods in North America. It is still used to make bows and musical instruments today. Then I had Anvil Horn make me a treble clef hook that I screwed into the top box, to hang my bag on. I painted my name and added music notes and roses over Mogillon Drifters laser engraved USMC symbol (after it had chipped away with years of use) because I bought Shanley a larger cart and bogarted his!!! It is usually used by Deacon Henrey when he comes to WR/EOT and CAC!!! photos to follow. Add: Holy COW!!! I hadn't realized how 'used' this poor beasty has been!! Time to strip and reseal! I was told when I built it to make sure it was light...it ain't and now even more so !! Had it for nearly 16 years. Also a white tip silvertail foxtail which I got in South Dakota years ago. We have a small loft of chilly bins, griddles, tea kettles, ect. that were left behind in our keeping for return trips to EOT in NM.
