Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Today is the really annoying part. It’s the s***s… 🤪
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 "Annoying" is being polite. I commend your gentlemanly nature! My last one involved a much less ... vigorous ... cleanout agent. Just as effective without the major (energetic) result!
Subdeacon Joe Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 I'll be having a bacon sandwich for lunch. Probably spaghetti for dinner. With garlic bread.

I’d be afraid of an over pressure condition! 😂
Blackwater 53393 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Here’s hoping that you’re a perfect a**hole!!

Rip Snorter Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 For future reference there is a Crap in a Box option that replaces a routine colonoscopy. Much nicer. If there are symptoms that require the real deal, you just have to go with it.

Warden Callaway Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Please, no pictures! On another forum years ago, someone posted a video.
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Been Ther. Done That! (Or should I say HAD it done to ME!) No T-Shirt though. Better to find out. If this wasn't a family oriented site, I'd tell the tale of my Mother and her barium test!
John Kloehr Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 If your cheeks light up, the doc went too far.

John Kloehr Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 On the serious side, I've had the cleanout by drinking the gallon of stuff and with the pills. The gallon of stuff is easier. Also best to have a morning appointment for the procedure.
J-BAR #18287 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 One advantage to being older than 75...they don't do routine colonoscopy on old farts like me. Too much risk of damaging the colon. So no more unless symptoms show up. See what you have to look forward to? Hoping everything is normal. Enjoy your trip.

I’m thinking about it!

Personally, I'd talk to my Doc and see what other options are available - of course, age is a factor as well.
Horace Patootie, SASS #35798 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 While the Doc is in there, I wonder if he'll check for an echo; Hello...hello...hello...hello :-)

My dad did not want anybody messing around "down there," so he did not go until he could no longer function. He ended up with a bag. I take the view that a polyp may or may not turn into cancer, but a removed polyp never will. 1st time was 11 polyps, 2nd time was 3. None the 3rd time so now doing the poop on the paper thing. Think seriously about removing whatever is causing bad cells to show up.

Buckshot Bear Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Make sure you wink at the Doc with your third eye.
Chantry Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 History in my family so I get to do the procedure. Did it once before and woke up during the procedure and asked if we were done yet.

Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 I've been tempted, after the "evacuation phase", to swallow a piece of paper that says... "We've been trying to reach you about your extended car warranty..."
Big Sage, SASS #49891 Life Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 I have had a "bag" for 30 years. Take my word for it.....get checked out.

Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 All joking aside, I take this very seriously and this is my third one - every 10 years. So far so good. As I recall, Utah Bob’s son died from colon cancer. Ain’t something to procrastinate about.
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 I lost my Mom to Colon Cancer. Screening is important.
Pat Riot Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 In 2000 I had half my large intestine removed due to diverticulosis. I had diverticulitis too often and my doctors insistently recommended surgery. I was 39. I nearly died twice during the operation. Apparently my organs aren’t where they’re supposed to be. The surgeon cut an artery and damaged my pancreas. Apparently the first artery fix came undone and they had to redo it. Thankfully I remained completely oblivious under sedation. Luckily there was no cancer. It took 12 weeks to get back on my feet and a good 6 months before I felt normal again. I bring this up because I had a diverticulitis attack when I was 28. The doctors actually ruled out diverticulitis because I was “too young to possibly have it”. Had they caught it then I may have been able to avoid the surgery 11 years later. Maybe. Don’t put off testing because it’s gross and inconvenient.
Rip Snorter Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Son of a Doctor, I always keep questioning, I have an excellent primary - Internist, but I question him, politely, as well.
Eliphalet R. Moderator Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Lost the pard who used to ride with me to matches, to colon cancer. He didn't want to get tested.

watab kid Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 uve had quite a few , think of it this way - when its over and you get good results your good for a while , if you get bad results they caught it early and can most likely fix it , in the meantime you suffer through the prep and all the indignities of the procedure as well as the inconveniences of the visit to the facility , but you know after that your ok , or you can get fixed , if you skip it you may get a different diagnosis ,
Nostrum Damus SASS #110702 Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 I have family history, have been "done" every 3-5 years for the past 35. It is much less an indignation than a lot of other things in regular everyday life, in my opinion. And the "going to sleep" part is AWESOME. And some funny stuff happens when you wake up but are still not forming memories (the particular anesthesia generally used doesn't really render you unconscious -- it just blocks memory formation so that one second later you don't have any memory of what happened one second before. (Thus, you are actually "awake" of sorts and can hear and follow instructions during the procedure, like "roll to the left" or whatever.) My friends who have helped me get dressed afterwards in the doctor's office have told some very funny stories about our conversations in those moments right after "waking up," none of which I have any actual memories of.
