Marshal Dan Troop 70448 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Yesterday I filled up and gas has actually gone down from a week ago in my area. This surprised me with Holiday coming up. But its all over the place as I drove to a small station I frequent because they have always been the lowest except once in a while Sam's beats them. I paid 3.02 a gallon.

Chantry Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 $3.47 to $3.57 here in Connecticut. Prices seem to be trending higher, it'll be interesting to see where the prices are in October or November when that somewhat significant event occurs.
Cypress Sun Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Right now it's in the mid $3.20 range but can vary wildly from day to day and area of town. Sam's is usually about $.10 -.15 cheaper than chain stations and BJ's is usually about $.20 - .25 cheaper. I have seen a $.47 increase over night once for some perceived/imaginary crisis about a year ago.
Blackwater 53393 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 $2.97 in Clarksville, TN on Saturday. As high as $3.59 in the high rent district of Nashville.

Diesel has stayed steady at 3.79 to 3.84 since February for comparison on January 20 2021 , gasoline was 1.79 and diesel was 1.89. Hard to remember what changed then. Regards Gateway Kid

Wild Eagle Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 $2.99 to $3.35 for regular between Houston and San Antonio. Pays to shop around a little. The $2.99 is cash price. Same station is $3.09 with credit.
Pat Riot Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Gas near me varies depending on the station. Regular Gas is running $3.29-3.49. It depends on how close the station is to the interstate. Prices are higher near the interstate unless it’s an Exxon station. Exxon always has lower prices near the main roads.

With oil companies having to purchase Foreign oil for their refinery's and demand, prices will be based on them since so little is being produced here and exploration is at a standstill and closing Alaska's, we may well be hurting. I remember during the gas shortage in the 70s and we were buying Arab oil at their high prices and it showed at the pumps. Its amazing, no new refineries have been built since the early 70s when Mobil built a refinery in Joliet?Channahon, Il. Many are over 80 years old and a shutdown for turn-a-rounds to clean vessels and clean/replace the plates in a tower can bring shortages and prices up. Upkeep on these refinery's are heartbreaking when one see's the work and replacement to keep them up. Because of regulations, I doubt a new one will ever be built. Rather sticking sticks(band-aids) in leaks in vessels and towers continue, (that's a true happening to avoid shutdowns.

And then hold hearings to find out why prices are so high. But never once consider that it's the taxes, fees, and regulations on the industry that make gasoline here consistently a buck or more a gallon higher than anywhere else in our republic.
