Waiting for someone to Knock on the door

We live in a 55 and older mobile home park.  Don't get 'em here.  Which is a kind of relief.  For about 10 years or so we played the game, including putting out a table, with table cloth, bowls of candy, candles, and standing out there in costume.

In 26 years the only trick or treaters have been our two grandkids. They’re grown now so we don’t even buy any candy now. Living out in the sticks has its advantages sometimes.

We had a bunch of kids come visit.

We gave out about 3-4 BIG bags of the mini candy bars:

Kit-Kat,  Snickers, Snickers PNut Butter, Butter Fingers, Milky Way and Mounds bars.

We had over 200 kids in about 2 hours. :D

Tonight really made me miss my dog Wilbur. I think he liked Halloween as much as the kids do. He loved all the attention from the kids when he “helped” answer the door.

I'm another who lives where we just don't get the trick or treaters. I will say while I don't exactly miss it, I did enjoy it when we lived where we did get them.

Taken out of context, that sounds like a recipe for jail time.

Howdy:

We had a company sized crowd of kids (parents & Pets) for Halloween.  Went thru about $60 worth of various candy bars (maybe more) for them.  We live in a area that is comprised of mostly middle class retirees and not far from farm areas and an area composed of folks not too well off.  They bring their kids to our sub-division and it is our pleasure to give out candy to the little ones and see them smile.  We let the little ones grad a handful of goodies. HAHA

20 years ago I lived in a neighborhood that had little kids in almost every house. Needless to say Halloween was an absolute blast. I very much enjoyed it. Slowly but surely everybody grew up and trick-or-treating came to an almost dead standstill. I had several years where there was not one trick-or-treater to be found on the street. Kind of made me a little sad. Well, nostalgic anyway.

I found that it was great fun being a part of making everyone else's fun night more funner.

Where we live it’s still fairly rural, cellular doesn’t even work here. The local high school has a Halloween carnival type thing so that’s where the kids go. Not many kids want to venture up our driveway after dark with the owls hooting in the sycamores and oaks. It’s halloween scary without trying.

We had maybe 40-50 kids total. I gave out Halloween pencils. The little kids love them and they are not as fattening in the week after.

yeah but splinters and paint chips get stuck between their teeth.

Kaya and I went hunting. I didn't see anything but a black cat slinking through the woods. :o

Kaya got to see two 8 points sparring in front of the does. She drew back on one 8 but didn't get a clear shot. All were within 5 yards of her at one point.  Wonder if she has stopped shaking yet?

I love Halloween. Live in a small enclave in suburbia. Only have about 10 neighbor children each year. Love the little princesses! And the spooky boys, one dressed up as the grim reaper!

It is fun since my children out grew trick or treat. Miss taking them out on Halloween.

I forget I need to watch my wording around here....I do enjoy looking at young ladies...But I am not blind or dead...I know what jailbait looks like...And wonder, did I miss something in high school...

I think we all did. What's the expression? "Youth is wasted on the young?"

I can relate! When I was in high school there wasn't a single girl that I was attracted to. Now here I am in midlife and I can't help but wonder... damn, were they really that ugly back then or was I simply not firing on all cylinders yet?

Last night it was busy as usual at my place... the first kids came at 5:30pm, all little ones dressed as princesses or dinosaurs. Then the rush hit at 7pm, and as the night wore on the kids got bigger until finally I shut the lights out at 9pm because there was nothing but teenagers roaming the streets. In all maybe 80-100 kids, and I went through three large bags of Tootsie Rolls.

Trick or treating is slowly turning into something you do at shopping malls or taking part in the new "trunk or treat" events in public parks. The kids don't care either way, but the parents feel safer taking their kids there rather than letting them bang on the doors of complete strangers.

We didn't have as many as we usually do. Weather kind of put the kibosh on it this year. not too many kids in this park, but we do get kids from outside. We have had years when we got'em  by the carload. This year trick or treat coincided with Canton City's. Also it was from 3 to 5 on Sunday:blush:

We live an a rural area as well.  We participated in the subdivision trunk-or-treat last weekend.  I was great to see all the little ones dressed up and get to chat with their parents.

About the same as last year...6 total between 1900 & 2030.
Most go to the newer sub-divisions (I live in an older neighborhood in the middle of town)
The local FD also had a Halloween event at the station this year.
Recent cougar sightings in the immediate area may have had an effect as well.

I got enough to give away a half a bag of chocolates.  Numbers were down this year due to a cold front passing though.  My wife was working and asked I set aside the Kit Kats for her.  I did and set the Reeses peanut butter cups aside just to prevent some pint-sized hob-goblin with a nut allergy from eating them.  I won't admit it was really so I could eat them.

Hey, cougars want to be able to trick or treat too! They especially like the colorful little fun-sized tasty treats carrying around pails of candy. ;)

I live in a 250 house subdivision in Inwood, WV. Got four large Kirtland bags of candy from COSTCO, saved the peppermint patties, Resse's, and Snickers for ourselves and counted out in 100 piece bags. Gave each kid 2 pieces. We had 175+ show up. Started at 6:15, ended at 7:45. Temperature was 70 degrees; sat on my front porch. Trick or Treating is a really big deal in my area. All of the neighbors sit in their driveways, many with extensive decorations; kids get a sugar high. Pleasant times had by all.
