Best Halloween Candy Of All Time

Recommended Posts

From back when I was participating:
(all candy bars were full size then)
1.) 3 Musketeers
2.) Milky Way

3.) Hershey's Milk Chocolate

4.) Necco Wafers.

Most memorable, Mr. Marron, grabbing my bag out of my hand after I had taken a small handful of M&Ms from the huge bowl they hand, and shoveling 3 big handsful into my bag. "THERE!  That's how to do it!"

My favorite Halloween candies have always been chocolate candy bars of one sort or another.
Snickers

Three Musketeers

Milky Ways

Hershey’s Bars

Chunky’s

Reese’s Cups

and so on…

When I was a kid it seemed like every year I had a new favorite candy bar but the main ingredient in all of them was milk chocolate.

Not necessarily in this order (or maybe!)

Mounds!

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

Almond Joy

3 Musketeers

Dark Chocolate

Kit-Kats

M&M's (any ~ plain, peanut, and almond!)  ^_^

Snickers

Heath bars

Whoppers (the malted milk balls; not the burger - tho I am a fan of Burger King too - just not dumped into a bag of candy).

Now I'm picturing Charlie Brown dumping out his bag of candy, "I got a rock.   And a double Whopper with cheese."

We buy the huge bags from Costco.
Two years back, we had 160 kids (I keep count)
Last year, darn near nothing.

According to one kid at the door, we give "the good stuff" which is why those kids bus into our neighborhood from elsewhere.

Our favorite is whatever is left after the light goes out on 10/31.

Almond Joy for her, Butterfinger for me.
Kit Kat, Snickers, Reeses Cups... it's all good.
I can go into a sugar coma from any of 'em.

Has to be DARK CHOCOLATE you betcha

I'm with the Colorado Coffinmaker on this one!

My mother in law, rest her soul, gave me a wise and eye-twinkling look one evening and said quietly, "DARK is the ONLY real chocolate!"

At her behest, I tried it for the first time in my life, and found ...

... she's right!

I have a very strong sweet tooth. All of them in fact. Amazing I don't weigh 1100 lbs.

I will admit to being the odd man out and saying I like the small Twizzlers, Nerds, Laffy Taffy, and Spree. Don't get me wrong, I also like chocolate, and Snickers is always there for the win, unless someone was actually giving out dark chocolate, which I don't recall. I do recall taking my daughters out one year through my in-laws' neighborhood (which is where we always took them), and one family giving out FULL SIZE Snickers bars.

I had a long driveway soo some kids wouldn’t come up, the #@*& soccer moms would drive up and get stuck going down so eventually I parked at the bottom of the driveway and turned the dome light on. I’d offer a Hershey bar or snickers. Had a kid who remembered that I had butterfingers a year earlier (damned Bart Simpson).  Always the big bars, biggest of the big but not the pounders.

We live on a leafy street with old-fashioned street lights and low porches, easy to trick or treat in, and we get a lot of kids. This year, about 250; not a record but not far off.

When the Reeses and Tootsie Rolls ran out, it was down to saltwater taffy. Not much left over.

Howdy,

SNiCKERS...natures perfect food.

However there is a candy called  ice cube.

This is the size of a small ice cube and always sort of expensive for the size.

Ice cube is only carried by one store in town afaik.

Reeeel tasty.

Best

I like the small Twizzlers

Both my wife and I are Red Vines fans, to us Twizzlers taste oily and waxy.  To most Twizzler fans it seems that Red Vines taste oily and waxy.  I've not met too many people who like both.

When it comes to the full size bags, my preference is usually the store brand that you get at different places. Gander Mountain used to be a good example. If someone gives me my choice between a pack of Red Vines and Twizzlers, I will take the Red Vines, but I do like Twizzlers still. But here, we're talking Halloween candy. I've never seen little fun sized packages of Red Vines, only Twizzlers. interestingly, the little two piece packages of Twizzlers taste better to me than the full size ones for reasons that I can't explain.

I would just like to thank both of you gentlemen for calling them Red Vines, and not red licorice.

Red Vines is actually a brand name. https://redvines.com/about-us/

They seem to find "red licorice" an acceptable term. That's actually what I grew up calling it, although I tend to not so much anymore. I don't, however, have a problem with those who do, or those who use other colloquialisms. Being of Appalachian ancestry going to a prominent liberal arts college, then on to law school with lots of upper crust types, I quickly found that those who were insecure or simply felt the need to lord it over others would be quick to call me on any colloquial expressions I might use. They also generally quickly realized that I don't have very much of a "Back-Up" when challenged.

I have nothing against colloquialisms. It's like a red light - if you want to call it a stoplight or a traffic signal that's fine.

But licorice tastes like licorice. That's why it's called licorice. Red Vines taste like strawberry. They're not red licorice, they're red strawberry.

Excuse me. According to that link they're

red raspberry, not strawberry. Regardless - they are not licorice.

That Carmel Apple is pretty awesome but way oldschool.

I got a Heath Bar but wanted a Butterfinger.

I'm a licorice guy, I like it all but sometimes you get some awesome european or small batch stuff.  Agree with one of the posters that licorice is licorice but I'm now forced to say 'black' because they call that red stuff licorice.
