Pulp, SASS#28319
Any of y'all ever called one of these medicare benefit plans that Joe Namath and other celebrities keep telling us about? Sounds a lot like bait and switch, but I reckon it could be legit.

Muleshoe Bill SASS #67022
The trickey thing about the Medicare Advantage plans is most are local coverage at the advertised rate is only good in the covered area. Go to another state or area and the coverage is reduced or not existent. Now, that said, each plan is very specific and one has to read the plan information closely. These plans have PPO type, HMO type, Fee for service types Some require you us their doctors and those doctors drop off the plan any time the want, you then have to choose a new doctor - hospital, etc. Most require referrals for specialists, etc. This comment is generalized and definitely not comprehensive. Read the Medicare booklet the sen you and for gods sake do not agree to the electronic version, much easier to read the physical print.
Smoky Pistols
Funny, I was just thinking the same thing the other day. I'd seen the Joe Namath ads and I thought, "Yeah, maybe he didn't make enough money in his day and he needs Medicare". But then the other night I saw an ad with another celeb--I want to say Danny Glover--- and I'm thinking, "Does he really need to use this plan?". Blackwater 53393
Yeah! Mike Ditka does the same commercials. I wonder how many folks would give these products a second look if me or Widder or some other cowboy was to be hawkin’ ‘em! OH! YEAH!! Those commercials run all year long ‘cause folks become eligible for Medicare every day. Never used ‘em, but the last couple of years, me ‘n’ Schoolmarm have used a local outfit that performs the same service. Thankfully, it has worked out fairly well. Without the advantage plan, my medicines the last couple of years would have cost me $25,000.00 a year and that doesn’t cover the non hospital procedures that Medicare wouldn’t cover. They don’t make you sign up and if there’s no local company that can give you a rundown of what’s out there, ya’ might do well to look at what they’re offering. You can only go to the plans DR's. No choices there! Even without Medicare most doctors around here belong to one hospital's medical group or another. The "family" doc never diagnoses anything without sending you to another doc or three within that group. Then after working through his checklist (I'm not joking, I saw the one my doc uses for diabetes patients!) and making sure he's redistributed your wealth through his group you might get treated. Took them close to 5 years to diagnose my wife's hiatal hernia and actually treat it. Of course she lost her gallbladder and had bunches of other tests done before the real problem was found. Big Sage, SASS #49891 Life
Under today's Medicare and my secondary insurance, I can go to any Doctor who accepts Medicare. Under the plans that Namath (and other celebs) pitch , you could only go to the Doctors the plan approves and sends you to.

Sedalia Dave
The absolute smartest thing I ever did or will ever do was stay in the military till retirement at 20 years. The inexpensive cost of a TriCare supplement plus the lost cost of prescriptions till you reach 65 is worth ANY BS that you have to put up with while in. Once you reach 65, TriCare for Life kicks. Pay your Medicare part B and you have it made. If you know anyone currently in or contemplating joining any branch of the military the cost savings in medical premiums after you retire at 20 easily out weighs putting up with all the BS.
