House Arrest for Old Folk...?

Recommended Posts

In addition to the news about restaurants, bars, and such closing, I just read where the california governor "issued a call for home isolation for all seniors above the age of 65 or with chronic conditions to stay indoors.  There are 13 task forces to aid in this directive to protect those who are most vulnerable..."

Yeah.  Right.     silly.gif

Well, we have “isolated” my 90yo Mother-In-Law, due to the CV19 scare.

However, we grant no Government entity such authority, and if this derelict Newsom or his minions try to assume it, then, ANYone foolish enough to try to enforce such a directive, will have run into a p legal problem.

The next thing will be to round them ALL up and put them in a concentration camp.

Of course, this is only for everyones well being...... those effected and those who ain't.

But, lets keep our borders open and unchecked.    Sacrifice our parents to help save humanity.

Yea, right!

They're telling us to self isolate if we are over 70 or  have chronic conditions, so that's us.

I'm don't consider myself a prepper, but we appear to be OK for the next few weeks.

Originally living in northern Alberta taught me to be prepared.

I always carry a stock of dried and canned goods, cake mixes etc. shelved in the basement. It took my eastern, city dwelling wife a while to get used to that when we first married,

I have home-made one pot meals and other entres, frozen in one freezer and meat and fish requiring cooking in the other

Eggs and fresh veggies may be a problem though and if SWMBO decides she no longer likes my Soy Milk (I have a lactose issue) that could be an issue.

When this is all over, my grocery and staples order is going to be a big one.

Well, my wife and I are 59. She is turning 60 in a few days and we had a big event planned but not any more.
We have a few neighbors in their late 60’s and late 70’s.
I read a Newsweek bit by Newt Gingrich in Italy. He laid out what is going on there. 1200 dead.
Even with 1200 dead this seems like a lot of knee jerk decision making.
It’s my opinion that we either do not have the full story on this CoVid 19 or we are being played in a world wide government conspiracy. I think it’s the former. Especially when you look at the death toll numbers this year alone for the common flu. Something just doesn’t add up.

Pat!

You're either up really late or getting up really early.

I read the Gingrich article.  It referenced that 5,000 might die in the US, based on mortality rates in Italy.

We lose 40,000 a year to traffic accidents.

We lose 20,000 a year to AIDS related illnesses.

The flu kills an estimated 12,000 or more annually.

Tobacco is estimated to contribute to 480,000 deaths per year in the US alone.

We've become a panic induced culture, being manipulated by mass hysteria and the media.

If I said what I really think of Gubbernor Gruesome I would definitely be timed out for the duration. He's likely suffering from the vapors contemplating being the first gub in the country to declare martial law! I have a prescription that thanks to excessive government regulating I can't refill for 3 days, but once I can get that then we're  in decent shape for the next few weeks. And during that time he can take his house arrest and put it where it belongs. I'll avoid crowds where possible and do the other stuff, but I'll be damned if I'm going to hide like a rabbit!

It gets a little scary when someone in the government starts thinking of things they need to do to people for their own good.

The Government is just exercising future control of people. Such as confiscation of guns and putting those gun owners in concentration camps to protect the good people of the Government. And most of us recall what happens in concentration camps. This way they see how controlling the masses works with scare tactics. It's the socialists way.

I've been listening to Dr. Saphier on Fox news and she's telling it like it is! She admits they don't know enough about this virus yet and they are learning everyday. She said all viruses die or settle down in warm weather but she can't say for certain that this virus will act the same. She's hoping that this will act the same.

Smart lady and plus she's beautiful :wub:which I why I paid attention to her in the first place!

My wife is postponing my Birthday celebration this month due to the fears surrounding COVID-19. :(

Apparently the invite list exceeded the 1,000 person limit. :o:P

To me it sort of feels like we are caught up in a Tom Clancy novel come to life.

Unfortunately you pards in California, Oregon and Washington are in for a really bad storm. Have you thought about what is going to happen when this virus hits the homeless that live in San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle?

It is pretty obvious what Newsom is going to do when the inevitable happens. Washington and Oregon will follow suit in short order.

Time to hunker down and batten the hatches.

Its both.

If you look at Italy's economy, it is driven by tourism. When you combine that with their lifestyle and culture, I am suprised that the number of cases is not higher.

How long do you hunker down?

How long do you isolate?

How long do you self quarantine?

No answers. Panic ensues.

The media excitedly reports every new case. But no news on vaccine research progress.

I saw this virus as an opportunity for payback, so I put both my parents on restriction early last week. They aren't allowed to leave the house until my brother or I give them the OK.  So far they're buying the story that it's for their own good, just like they used to tell me.

Something I heard today that makes more sense of this is that this virus has never been seen in humans before so “they” do not know for sure how it’s going to act. People may be overreacting or they may be the smart ones in the end. Time will tell.

This whole thing is like a tightrope walk. If the government overreacts it’s damned. If it under reacts it’s damned. But one thing is for sure, the media will be there to spin whatever happens to further their agenda, whatever that might be.

Well, I've never liked old people, course never really liked any people anyway. Now I do like a lot of individuals and dogs, just not people. Individuals can be very smart and funny. People not so much.

Time to call Dirty Harry and Uomo Senza Nome. Of course, Chuck Norris is already on the case, as we know. He caught it, and the virus is in quarantine for 14 days.

Well,

Six Bay Area counties announced a “shelter in place” order for all residents on Monday — the strictest measure of its kind yet in the continental United States — directing everyone to stay inside their homes and away from others as much as possible for the next three weeks as public health officials desperately try to curb the rapid spread of coronavirus across the region.

The directive begins at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and involves San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Marin, Contra Costa and Alameda counties — a combined population of more than 6.7 million. It is to stay in place until at least April 7. Three other Bay Area counties — Sonoma, Solano and Napa — were not immediately included.

Well, tomorrow morning 0720 MDT, I have the cataract in my left eye removed and replaced.  Got a GO from both my primary care doc and the eye doc.   Apparently they feel I'm okay in spite of being 77-1/2 and Type 2 diabetes.  Otherwise, wife and I will mostly hunker in place. Just have to keep our fingers crossed!  Probably won't be back on the confuser until at least Wednesday evening or maybe Thursday.

For the last six days I’ve been pretty much in the house or shop. Youngest son and three grandkids showed up for a Disney Land spring break but that got nixed on Thursday evening so I’ve been Grandpaing. Went to the post office once to drop off a letter and up to the liquor store for a bottle of scotch and that’s it. I was invited to go to a movie today with Mrs. Lose and the grandkids but decided against it, didn’t want to chance it. I’m good at hunkering down, I guess.

Coronavirus  VS Swine Flu, also known as H1N1 in 2009

Keep in mind, when looking at these numbers, the swine flu was a pandemic for a year and we are just months into the coronavirus.

All of the following numbers are from the World Health Organization:

In 2009, there were up to 1.4 billion worldwide cases of the Swine Flu in the one year it was a global pandemic.

For the coronavirus, since the breakout in Wuhan, China months ago, there are 132,536 confirmed cases worldwide.

With the swine flu, there were up to 575,000 deaths worldwide associated with disease over the course of the entire pandemic.

Months into the coronavirus there have been 4,947 deaths worldwide.

In the United States, there were 61 million cases of confirmed swine flu.

Friday afternoon, there were 1,264 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the U.S., of course that number continues to grow each day.

Comparing death tolls, the 2009 swine flu claimed the lives of 12, 469 Americans.

As of Friday afternoon, there were 36 deaths due to the coronavirus in the U.S.

The swine flu was declared no longer a pandemic in 2010, meaning the above numbers for the disease are final.

However, the coronavirus is still expected to grow.

I don't remember people going into a panic during the Swine Flu pandemic. What is the difference now?  "mass hysteria and the media".

YMCA and swimming pool closed, so I'm planning some early-season day hikes. I'm 72. Day hikes are as good as home self-isolation because you're out in the woods and there's hardly ever anybody there anyway, especially this early. Good exercise and escape from boredom. And get ready for summer backpacking. And still be compliant with good practices.

We've had a couple of sunny days, and I'd like to get back to the local outdoor range I go to. The Pres. of the club says that they are closing temporarily until they can put the restrictions in place for businesses allowed to stay open: sanitizer and distancing. They maybe be able to accomplish this with a large outdoor range; maybe not, we'll see.

Goin' with the flow. All health professionals, many of whom I know, say this is serious business; I think we all know that now.

Up here on Puget Sound, ground zero, the stores are now full of stacks of bottled water (for those  who care), at Safeway at least, and the fresh meat, fish and produce cases are totally full, as is the bakery. Canned goods half down mostly, with stockers working hard. Still no toilet paper. Put simply, there are no food shortages, everybody's attitude is matter-of-fact. And we've had huge buying for weeks now.

Hell, as an old person over 60 and high risk from health conditions I'd be happy to be under house arrest and kick back and take it easy - but I have to work - seems pandemic or not people are still wanting to kill themselves or others.
