Have You Ever Named a Vehicle?

Saw a commercial earlier that a woman named her car "Brad". Thought to myself, have I ever named any vehicle that I've owned? Answer came back, no......called a few some names, but never named any of them.

How about ya'll?

Bought one of the first 1970 1/2 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400s sold in Utah. Didn't say Pontiac nor Firebird anywhere on it. Beautiful Aegean Blue Metalic Mist, black interior. Only 7007 made that year. Had her name across the back window: IRON MISTRESS.

First and only one I ever named.

Wish I'd kept that car.

Used to have a pickup I called Mule. Like Yosemite Sam - yah Mule, yah Mule, and whoa Mule, whoa Mule.

But like, "this is my Impala, Lorraine, and that's my Corolla, Junie Belle" - that never happened.

Yep, I generally give a nickname to my vehicles.

Current is a 2016 F250 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 in Blue Jeans Blue so his name is Levi.

My BMW K1600 GTL motorcycle I called The Beastie since it could eat up the road at an incredible rate. Absolutely hated to sell it. Best motorcycle I ever owned.

My wife named her Bronze Fire Metallic colored Explorer "Autumn"

Back in the 1980's my Suzuki GS1100E was named George.

Just kind of fun.

My first car, a used 1960 Rambler American (OK, laugh...the dealer lived across the street and it was cheap) got named Buckshot, reason lost to antiquity.

A used 1975 Pontiac Catalina purchased from a friend at a wonderful price; when I saw the car for the first time I said it was as big as the Starship Enterprise. The name stuck. When we would take a vacation, the trip started with "These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise..."

My missus is presently driving a dark red Honda CRV named Garnet, because it is the color of one of her rings.

A car must earn its name...

I've had a few of them named, usually named for me by others.

I drove a 1977 Jeep Cherokee that my brother and friends ended up nicknaming "Chief," even though it wasn't a Chief model.

In college I drove my Dad's mid-70's Old's Delta 88. It was a harvest gold sort of color with a brown vinyl top. Fraternity brothers initially called it the Beta 88 (instead of Delta), but then one of them pointed out that it looked like some car from an early 70s movie done in Technicolor. He started calling it the Technicolor Land Yacht from He!!. That one stuck.

My 2002 Neon R/T got nicknamed "Speedy Little Devil" by my oldest daughter (she was five at the time). It still gets called that.

My Tundra I just call the Tundra or occasionally "The Beast"

When I was in college I had an early 1970s Matador station wagon that I called The Beast. It was butter yellow with peeling wood-grained contact paper on the sides. Our family's mechanic shook his head in amazement every time he saw it, wondering how it kept running after the way I abused it.

Most of mine have been named... a few of the more memorable ones have been my '62 Buick Skylark, "Old Paint," my '73 Super Beetle, "Otto," the '99 F-150, "Silver Bullet," and of course the '02 yellow Miata, "Zelda." ^_^

A few more, but this'll do for now. :)

My folks had a 1942 (made in '44) Plymouth 4-door, and later a 1950 Plymouth. Both were called, "Betsy". Drove a couple of Dodge trucks in the Air Force that we often had names for...especially when they broke down in the middle of Montana! Couldn't print the names, however! Mostly it was, "You #$%^&*!!!!"

Allie, my Daddy had a Chevrolet with a shape similar to that - late 40s, early 50s I reckon.

I was standing up in the back seat. He braked and made a left turn.

As he slowed my weight went forward, pushing the seatback forward (no locking seats back then) which hit the (push to open) door handle, unlatching it. As he turned, it opened and I went bouncing down the shoulder.

He reversed the door handles, so now you had to pull up to open.

But I never let him forget the time he threw me out the car.

The funniest name I've ever heard for a car was one a friend in school had for his beat up 77 Chevy Nova, with mismatched rattle can paint, automatic transmission without a reverse, no radio... you get the idea. He called it "The Mongolian Stomper."

The first one I named was a 98 blazer. I named it hope. As in I hope it gets me there. The next one was an 81 chevy pickup aptly named rusty. I haven't named a vehicle since. Maybe I need to name my jeep.

I have had nicknames for my cars but those were rarely the monikers they kept for posterity. I called my 1988 Escort "Little One". Uno called it "The Dorf". My 1995 Protege' was called "The Prot". My 2004 Tribute is called "The Truckette" or "The Maz".

My first car was a 65 mustang. White. Named it Traveler after General Robert English Lee's horse. Still have it .

I had a 97 F150 4 door , long bed with a camper shell. All red. We called it the fire truck.

She who must be obeyed , got a Chevy traverse and decided to name it Roxie. I don't know why .

So I then got a F150 , so she named it Foxie.

Then we got our travel trailer and she named it Boxie.

My daughter has a little ford Fiesta named Ronald. It's a girl.

My oldest daughter has a Ford Fiesta named Pillbug.

I am sure there were others that I just don't remember .

My dad always named his pickups after characters from the movie Silverado. I forgot about those. He had a Peyton, a Stella, and one he didn't like was Cobb.

Somewhere in the lost mists of the 70s I bought the only new vehicle I've ever had. It was a Chevy LUV truck. It was bright yellow and a friend named it the "Two Door Banana". I only owned it about 6 months because it became quickly obvious that I was bigger than the cab of the truck. It was fun to drive though.

My current truck is a Ford F250 V10 that is named "Big Un" for obvious reasons.

Allie, I did some predatory girl chasing in a friends Henry J.
