We have our safety brief and Pledge at 08:30.

The hostilities commence right afterwards.

For a monthly 9 is ok, so is 10 or anywhere in between.

For a big match 8:30 to 9 at the latest.

It depends on the season and where your club is located.  In central CA, in mid summer, we can have 108 degrees by 1:00 PM.  So most clubs try to start earlier, about 8:00.

In winter, when morning temperatures go below freezing, later starts (9:30) are more pleasant.  A little sun on the range makes the shooting and target handling much nicer, and people aren't having to drag themselves out of bed at  4:30 AM and driving 80 or 90 miles through dense fog.

For multi-day matches in spring or fall, an 8:30 start time works out well.

Where do you shoot?
I understand there are no SASS clubs in Camp Verde or Payson.
We plan to relocate in 14 to 18 months, and an active club is important to us.

For monthly matches I favor 930 to 10 especially if Sassy is shooting. Easier to get her up for travel with time when there to get us both all set.

While Bar 3 is no problem at only 30 minutes and hammers down at 930, Cowpokes at Albany, OK and 10horns at Leonard, TX both take around 80-90 minutes of driving so later start is welcomed.

2 to 3 day shoots, we usually stay  nearby so earlier start time is acceptable.

Most of the clubs around here have a 10:00 AM start time.   The reason for this pretty simple, most towns have a no shooting before 10 law on the local books.

That being said, not only have I gotten used to it, it also does have a practical benefit.  When the clubs you shoot at are anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours away by car, you don't have to get up stupid early to get there on time.

It's also why most clubs around here tend to break for lunch in the middle of the shoot.

The Yavapai Rangers shoot between Cottonwood and Sedona on 4th Saturdays.

Whiskey Row Gunslingers shoot 2nd Sunday south of Prescott.

The Nazty Bunch shoots east of Flagstaff on 3rd Saturdays in warm months.

ACSA is at the Ben Avery Range in north Phoenix 2nd Saturdays.

Cowtown in north Phoenix 1st Sunday and 3rd Saturday plus Wild Bunch 4th Sunday.

All less than 80 miles from Camp Verde.

Hope this helps.

This is my big sticking point with getting my bride to participate.
She is a true night owl... and says mornings begin at Noon.

I've heard many shooters that have to travel 2-3 hrs for a monthly say they would attend if the start wasn't before 10AM. But, then others closer say starting later makes it too hot for them.

For a monthly I personally like to do a warm-up stage between 8 & 9AM to get the gun & body gremlins settled down, with a safety meeting at 9, start shooting at 9:30.

For a state, regional, EOT, etc. I'd like a 9AM safety, hostilities at 9:30.

Now, having said that, I'm okay with just about anything, but I usually get pretty antsy after a 9:30 start, even if I drove 3 hours to the match. As long as the missus & I get to shoot every Saturday, we're good.

Reading these comments.. it appears my 45 minute drive to the match, is a lot less than some other folks do.

California: 25 minutes to 90 minutes

Texas: 40 minutes to 90 minutes

Colorado: 70 minutes to 110 minutes

Your mileage may vary...

Bowling Green,  KY: 50 minutes

Wartrace, TN: 105 minutes

Knob Creek, KY: 120 minutes

Oak Ridge, TN: 150 minutes

Once in a blue moon, I'll visit Woodville, AL and it's just over 3 hours.

But I do have the advantage of being able to practice in my back yard.

All of these start at 10am in there respective time zone.

i like the 8-830 at majors , like getting the 3 before lunch and 3 after first day so we only have 4 the second [or squeeze in an extra the first , setups are always pre-staged for these

i like the same start at a local but would never object to 9 as setups often take a bit up front

   The older we get, and the hotter it gets, we start thinking of earlier.....

Currently sign ups and BS'n begin at 7, shoot at 8.  Beginning to talk of starting to shoot at 7:30 or even 7.

Winter hours are sign up at 8, shoot at 9.

Day is half over at noon!!

My wife is the same way.  I'm up, been to town, got the house chores done, ate lunch and winding down around 2 or 3 PM and she's just starting her day!

I would but I own an AC company.

Probably not a lot of demand for AC in Colorado.
