Things going on around the world.

And Company's being bought and sold  ?

Things might start looking very dim in the ammo department again.

So he's psychic?

I mean here it is the third day of the new year and he's going to tell us what happens the rest of the year. Must be psychic.

He is extrapolating beyond the data to predict the market because the numbers are relative to themselves.  3x and 5x what?  That could be 1% or 99% of the market.  Was 2023 a low purchase year and 5x puts the government back to an average year?  Will they place an average order at 0.5x and the other 4.5x will be stocking up on the new 6.8mm rifle round, leaving a market surplus of 5.56NATO?

This dude has been pushing this for months if not a year now. Eventually if he keeps pushing it he will be proven right by virtue of the fact that eventually there will always be another ammo shortage due to panic buying due to the whatever the "next crisis" is.  That said, I learned after the Sandy Hook panic and not being able to buy .22lr at non-scalping prices for a 2 1/2 yrs, so I always keep a decent reserve of ammo for when it happens again.

Not to worry.
The Fed will probably lower interest rates a bunch before the 2024 election, so we will have easy money once again.
For awhile.

The folks that bought all that ammo during the past couple years and tried to sell it 4 and 5 times its value, were unsuccessful

in getting rich.   There never seem to be a real shortage because all the blame gun shows had plenty of all kinds of ammo

at SUPER HIGH prices......... even .22 ammo.

Now that ammo is easy to get again (although not as cheap), there is a panic among those folks who cant sell their

'hoarded' products and they want to start a rumor again about a shortage coming again.

I refuse to buy into it.   Let them spend all their money to hoard it all.    I'll just slow down shooting again while they

panic.

That what I think about it!

I'm still waiting for ammo prices to come back to some semblance of normality FROM the last three times. It seems that after the first time prices went up dramatically, about the time ammo was just starting to be available again and prices were STARTING to come down, another shortage hit. Again and again.

I do not believe ammo prices will ever come down.

The national debt hit $34 trillion today, and M1/M2 continue to increase, and then inflation follows.

I have 22LR with a Longs Drug price tag of $0.50 for the box.
Also have bricks of primers for $10 each.

Those prices ain't never gonna back again, either.

.22 lr has come down to reasonable range. .38 special has, also. Both a bit higher than before, but not outrageous. They won't get cheaper.

I've found .357 in the mid- high $30s; not too bad.

.45 Colt way too high in the $60s+ and .44 mag, too. Hope they come down.

.44 special? Haven't seen a box for a long time. Just glad I laid a lot of it in years ago; kind of an orphan cartridge to some degree.

Just my local shopping experience. I hope the bigger revolver calibers drop a bit.

I have gotten to the point .

I cast and load everything I shoot except 22.

I hope the scalpers die with all the ammo they went in and bought up.

Thank you Widder. I couldn’t have said it better myself. :)
Great minds and all that…

I was at a small gun show last month. Prices on ammo at the tables was high. One gent asked me if I needed any help. I politely told him his prices were a bit high compared to my local gun store. He just looked at me then stammered “I’ll bet they don’t have this variety.” I smiled and said “They do. Have a good day.” Then I walked away.

Every where I turn people are price gouging.
I buy from those that aren’t. The rest can go (CENSORED FOR EXPLICIT LANGUAGE)

During the pandemic/shortage I went to Bass a couple of times per week, being retired and all, to check ammo and prices. I found that if you did that, you'd find a fair amount of ammo as they would roll out what they had received; hit and miss but it would still trickle in. The big thing, though, is that notwithstanding the shortage and the demand, they charged only standard pre-shortage retail prices. I really appreciated that.

On the other hand, the small LGS where I had been a regular ammo customer before, began to truly gouge prices. I mean really. Twice and more of pre-shortage prices, and a lot of that for commercial reloads. Really true gouging, and they admitted it when I talked to tshem about it.

They went out of business three months ago. Why I don't know but I'd stopped going myself.

So to me the current prices at Bass probably reflect the new realities rather than gouging. Prices will stay higher than they were.

I found the same, 9mm have also come down to reasonable prices. I’ve seen them as low as $10.99

What brand?
I have seen Blazer Brass 9mm 115gr FMJ for $12.99 / 50. That’s the lowest I have seen on an ammo that I would buy.
I don’t buy pop up brands or anything European without some background on the ammo.

It wasn't until 2023 that we were even able to buy revolver ammunition again.

The local Sheels before Christmas had tens of thousands of rounds of 9 mm available. The $10.99 per box price was an off brand I do not remember but it sold quickly. The federal and lawman brands eventually all sold out as well at the never-on-sale price of $14.99 per box. Last time I was at Sheels they had no 9 mm.  Maybe it was an inventory thing at the very end of last year. I will head there today to do some shopping and see if they’ve replenished anything but their ammunition selection by and large has indeed been drying up.

I have noticed the price of 38 special and 357 magnum ammunition has become much more reasonable and I agree with prices quoted in an above post. 45 colt, however, is still obscenely high priced as is 44 special, 44–40, and 44magnum.

if I see 9 mm of a brand I’ve used and I’m familiar with in either 115 grain or 124 grain ball ammunition priced at $12.50 a box. I would be hoarding that… the $15 a box price, no.

Kind of a funny story. My LGS had .45 Colt ammo in a brand I have never heard of for $75 a box of 50. A guy was at the counter getting ready to buy a used Ruger BH in .45 Colt.
I said “Before you finalize that purchase, do you reload?”

”No, why?”

I pointed at the ammo aisle and said “Go over there and see how much an off-brand of .45 Colt costs. You might change your mind.”

He did and he canceled the sale.

The clerk was a little ticked at me. I told him “Don’t be mad at me. You’re the ones selling .45 Colt for more money than it should be.” And I left.

I was there the other day and there was no .45 Colt ammo there. Someone apparently bought it. Dumb***.

Wow! I would have too. I would have probably rounded it up to 200 rounds.

Wideners, up in Tennessee, every week has got some 9mm ball on sale. $250 for a thousand rounds. That's $12.50 a box.

It fluctuates. Last week it was Fiocchi, this week is Winchester white box, next week it's Blazer brass. Then back to Fiocchi. Usually 115 ball, but occasionally 124 grain.

I routinely buy the foreign stuff and I probably missed a company or two in addition to the below companies.  I think some of the foreign makers are now finding it worth their while to ship a container or two of ammo to the U.S. especially for the shotgun sports.

For rifle/pistol Fiocchi, Magtech, S&B, Privi Partizen( aka PPU), PMC, IMI (haven't seen it in a long time though), Wolf and some of the other Russian brands (not recently).  Aside from the Russian stuff (which always went bang) the quality was at least as good as the US made ammo and almost always cheaper

For shotgun: Fiocchi, Nobel, Privi Partizen, Aguila loaded ammo, Cheddite for hulls and primers and like the rifle/pistol at least as good as the US made ammo and almost always cheaper.

As for ghost or pop up brands, if they don't take a credit card, I won't buy from them.  I usually buy online and even with the shipping it's still the same as or less than retail and I what I want, not just what the local store MIGHT have.

On edit:  For self defense pistol ammo, I do restrict myself to U.S. made ammo because I have not see enough testing data of foreign ammo.
