Capt. James H. Callahan Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Last night before bed I noticed some real cool visual disturbances smoking out on the patio. Bright lights "arcing" in a semicircle in my right peripheral vision. My RN wife jumped on the confuser, and seems that's a sign of a detaching or tearing retina. I see a retinologist in the morning. I'd appreciate it if you pards would put in a good word to The Boss. Hopefully he (might be a she) will tell me it's nothing to worry about, but I doubt it. Less brilliant than last night, but it's still there. Much obliged, JHC UPDATE Thanks for all the prayers! Good report from the doc. No tears or detachment in the retina. Lights are caused by the gel that fills the eye liquifying with age, and sometimes pulls away from the retina causing stimulation as it sloshes around. Do have some DRY macular degeneration, but not as bad as wet MD. Doc wants to monitor, have a followup in three weeks, but no procedures anticipated. He said the lights should improve if not disappear in time (already much better.) About as good a report as could be hoped for I guess. YEEHAAWW! Thanks again for the prayers. Sus amigo, JHC

Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Any advice or restrictions from your eye doc, such as avoiding anything like a .458 Weatherby or other hard kicking fusils? Delighted that it's not a tear, well done getting it evaluated right away, and that great gusting sound in the distance was my big sigh of relief!

Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Saw this and offering a Prayer of thanks it isn't as serious as first thought.
Trailrider #896 Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Solidification of the ocular gel is one problem we can sometimes face due to aging. You may see a bunch of "floaters" in you vision from now on. Sometimes annoying, but as long as your retinal specialist isn't too concerned, you are okay. I see my retinologist annually, and my other opthamologist on the alternate six months. So far, so good...so far, so good...
