Snakebite
I load my shotgun shells most of the time. For the first time since the new law went into effect here in California, for buying ammo, I went into buy some shotgun shells today. They ask for my Drivers License and fed the information into the computer. after a while, it spit out a printed sheet from the Dept of Justice that said that I was denied, and not able to purchase ammo. Quite a shock for me. I'm a licensed DOJ instructor. Spent hours this morning trying to make contact with ANYONE at the California DOJ. No luck. It's impossible to talk to anyone... just piles of selected messages. Most of them say that they are swamped due to the fact that so many people are buying guns in California. After a few hours of reading, I decided that I was turned down because my new Drivers License showed my new address, and all of my DOJ records showed my old address. I sent in a address change.... maybe in 6 weeks I can buy that box of shotgun shells.

Southpaw Gringo, SASS # 74217
As a life long California citizen, I know exactly what your talking about. I've heard lots of stories like yours. Everything has to be in order for the Ca DOJ. Heck if you have a firearm that's not registered in your name for example you inherited your grandfathers 1911 in .38 Super, you 'can not' purchase ammo for that specific caliber. Sickening I know! I seen this coming and right now the best thing to do is reload everything and have a large supply of .22lr ammo. That's what I did so I'm good until retirement. Snakebite
Yeah... it's a bummer. I've never had any problem buying any gun I wanted and certainly not any ammo. I try to follow the rules, so this event really surprised me. It appears that it was just a change of address that needed to be done. Doing that change on one gun registration hopefully fixed the problem. We just moved out of the mountains a year ago and the new address didn't line up with anything that they had on file. When we moved, we considered moving to another state but just could not find anyplace that suited us. I hate the dessert, don't want the snow, can't tolerate high altitude and don't like high humidity. I like the North coast of California, and many parts of Oregon, but I don't fit in well with the ex hippies or the hippie wanta-bees. Not much on Chest Beating Vibrato so that rules out some areas, and having a well established team of doctors is a good thing to stick with if possible. Bottom line is that it is hard to leave your home and start over when you are in your 70s, and your family is local. So...I guess that I will just have to stick it out. Springfield Slim SASS #24733
I have reloaded all my ammo for over 15 years, so I haven't run into this. But maybe I should try just to see what happens. Funny thing is, we don't legally have to register all of our firearms so where so they get off saying which ammo we can and can't buy? Pre-1993 we actually could buy person to person and not go through an FFL, so they don't know all we have. Really, it wasn't all that long ago we still had some rights in California. You've been hanging out at turners haven't you?? That is patently false. you do not need to have a firearm of record in the system to buy ammuntion. and I quoteIf I don’t have a firearm recorded in my name, can I still purchase ammunition? Yes. Certificate of Eligibility validations and Basic Ammunition Eligibility Checks (single transaction or purchase) may be completed without having a firearm recorded in the Automated Firearm System. (Pen. Code, § 30370, Cal. Code of Reg., tit. 11 §§ 4303, 4305.) If you have been rejected but have had no previous issues buying a firearm, it's most likely someone fat fingered your application and you have mismatched information on your documents and application. or the system just fouled up. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
There is much cross-border shopping to thwart such controls. When I lived in New York, smokers came home from North Carolina with trunks full of cigarettes. When I lived in Oregon, web-footers bought their hard liquor in Hilt, CA just south of the state line. I've read that Costco warehouses in northern border states are popular with Canadians. I see that Cabelas has an outlet near I-80 in Nevada just east of the state line. I suspect that outlet sells more ammo that most Cabelas.

Mud Marine,SASS#54686 Life
Please don't Kalifornicate my Idaho. We have Kalifornians moving here that want to bring some of their BS with them. A Kalifornian moved near me and immediately tried to shut down my gun range. They are also all over Sandpoint, Coeur d'Alene and, especially, Boise. Fortunately, our legislature passed a myriad of gun, shooting, range, etc. protection laws in anticipation of the Kalifornians moving out of Kalifornia but still wanting to f--- up Idaho. Colour me bitter!!! I saw that happen to New Hampshire and Vermont. Montana even has Tester, a real beauty.
Russ The Red
We here in Colorado are perfectly happy to allow the West Coast population to stay on the West Coast. You wouldn't want to come here anyway because it is bitter cold and snows all of the time, 4 feet of snow on the roads right now. Also, we are only allowed to buy one round of ammunition at a time and all gun ranges must be closed on weekends. So if you think moving to Colorado is the answer, you are wrong. Try the East Coast. Conservatives leaving didn't cause the "super-majority." They already had a huge majority, created largely by hordes of immigrants from other states - and countries. I've mentioned before reading an article back in the year 2000 which stated that as of that time only one of every eleven adults in California was a native. Anyway, at this point, registered D's outnumber registered R's by over two to one. And, thanks to Schwarzenegger's "Jungle Primary" system, it's nearly impossible for an R to even make the ballot in any but local elections. Sounds like the ultimate "disenfranchisement," a word the other side loves to drag out whenever someone brings up the subject of repairing our flawed voting system and possibly corrupted voter rolls. IF I ever decide to escape, it certainly won't be to "Kalifornicate" another state. it'll be because I appreciate and want to live with the values of that state. Tequila Shooter
I feel for the honest, law abiding, Americans living in Kalifornia. The rest of us should see what is happening there and realize that it could happen anywhere. Other states like MA, NJ and even Washington DC, are starting to follow CA's lead. The left shows stats that gun control leads to fewer deaths and people want to believe it. Shouldn't the question be how many legal gun owners are killing people and committing crimes? A law, any law will not stop killing or crimes, a killer will either get a gun illegally or use another weapon of convenience. If you care about infringement of your Constitutional rights then let the politicians hear your voice, speak with your vote and show support.
