Smith and Wesson gonna have a southern drawl!

Recommended Posts

Sad; 170 years of manufacturing history forced out of the state by political correctness and virtue signaling.  It is not enough for the MA politicians to ban the sale of ARs; now they want to ban their manufacture in MA, even if they cannot be sold here.  What drives these loons?

I don't blame S&W; they have held on longer than I expected.  I do wish that they would close ALL of the S&W facilities in MA to maximize the hurt.

So many guns are built/have headquarters in "unfriendly" states.  How a company can operate in a state that is openly hostile to the production and selling of their wares is mind-boggling.

Lets make a list:

S&W - Massachusetts..finally moving

Colt - Connecticut...hopefully moving as a result of CZ purchase

Remington - lots of manufacturing in NY

Kimber - NY

Springfield Armory - Illinois

Armalite - Illinois

DS Arms - Illinois

Mossberg - Connecticut

Rock River - Illinois

Ruger - Connecticut for parts

Sig Sauer USA - NH

I'm sure there are others I couldn't remember.

Also, for defense work they're equally bad:

Boeing: Corporate in IL, manufacturing in WA, PA, IL, CA

Lockheed - Peoples Republic of Kali

Northrup - Peoples Republic of Kali

Pratt and Whitney - CT

Electric Boat Works - CT (Subs)

Why support a place that loathes you?

Massachusetts politicians are having fits over job being lost and don't know what to do.

Simple fix, folks: all of you anti-gunner left wing dipsticks walk into the capital, county office, city or town hall where you work, drop your resignation on the desk of the head political hack, and walk out.  You have now joined the ranks of those whose jobs you have sent away.

Then gather together in small or large groups and all of you send your money to the NRA for a Life Membership.  You can join any other pro-gun group you like, but the NRA, like it or not, is the gun-haters boogey-man, the nightmare that have blamed everything on for over a hundred years

This will not only help your struggling socialist state but will send a message across the country, and maybe the whole world, that your crap politics don't work.  Never have.  Never will.

I note that the release says they are keeping all revolver operations in Mass, which, considering that S&W is the revolver company par excellence, is interesting.

My guess would be that S&W sees the revolver business as being at the bottom of the anti's agenda, and that breaking the move into pieces makes it easier to accomplish without extreme disruption.  Just a guess.

I lived in Maryville for 10 years and know the area and it's people well. A lot of hard working folks that show up everyday, happy and ontime . Lots of qualified highly trained machinist and metal workers as a result of a tradition of heavy industry in that area including the big dog ALCOA. The only issue for those transferring south will be the adjustment of having their blood turn orange. Little school called UT

It's easy to move an office from one state to another.  It's a lot harder and more expensive to move the manufacturing, with all of it's machinery, to another state.  Also, don't forget the need to find new or additional suppliers that are local to the new spot.   And good for S&W for choosing not to fire all the presumably loyal employees they have in Springfield.

I am pretty sure a lot of S&Ws suppliers are located locally to them in regards to revolvers, but it could be the reason Loophole stated.

I was told that S&W and Ruger (New Hampshire) have a local forging company making their cylinders. I have no idea if this is true.

Want your blood to boil?  Read the front page Boston Globe story about this move, and then the comments at the end.

The public opinions include:

- S&W are merchants of death, pedaling weapons of mass murder; good riddance;

- S&W cares about nothing except money;

- S&W are liars; they are only moving to squeeze tax relief and payments out of Tennessee;

- S&W guns, including AR 15s, have absolutely no legitimate uses other than murder; the state is justified to send them packing;

- TN is infested with in-bred hillbillies, and deserves a gun company;

-  TN educational opportunities are limited to trailer park home schooling;

-  And on...and on...and on.....some of the most vicious, uninformed, spiteful fecal matter I have ever seen in print.

I'm ashamed of my fellow citizens, and of the newspaper that chooses to print this tripe without informed rebuttal.

This is true of a high percentage of 'comments' to articles in general, from all points of the spectrum. Newspapers require letters to the editor to come with names and addresses, but they allow anonymous comments, and all the vitriol that comes with that. Anonymous posting is the bane of the entire internet, at least in non-moderated places.

Remington is defunct and was sold off in pieces

Kimber is incorporated in Alabama

Armalite is incorporated in Arizona

Boeing is incorporated in Delaware

Lockheed Martin is incorporated in Maryland

Northrop-Grumman is incorporated in Virginia

Electric Boat Works is owned by General Dynamics, which is incorporated in Virginia.

It would seem that some of your homework hasn't been done on these assertions.

I think this move, is just the first for Smith & Wesson.

Once they have this move done, I look for a few more, and a few more, over time.

Tennessee, and their attitudes, and pro 2nd Amendment political climates, will cause the S & W management to want to move, ultimately, the whole

she-bang, down there. It also will be the tax incentives, that I imagine Tennessee will offer, so bottom line, money will rule the day. In this case, that hopefully, will be a good thing.

Our Governor has already talked to Colt about moving, but I don't think they are considering it....yet. Time will tell.

Tennessee is already home to three automotive manufacturing plants including the Smyrna Nissan plant which has recently been the most productive plant in the nation! Volkswagon is located in Chattanooga and the GM plant in Spring Hill, TN produces several popular SUVs.  There is the Massive ALCOA plant/complex in East Tennessee, in close proximity to where S&W is moving. Beretta recently relocated to Gallatin, TN.

For those of the “green” persuasion, Nissan has recently begun a manufacturing operation for batteries for the EV industry and many of those “Copper Top” batteries are manufactured in Tennessee as well!

Nissan moved their US corporate offices to Brentwood, TN as have many other major corporations.

We have one of the largest shipping and delivery companies in the nation, (maybe in the world) FedEx, located in Memphis, TN.

We have Vanderbilt University, one of the top medical and one of the top law schools in the world!

The support manufacturers for these industries are here already!!  Re-tooling or expansion is readily available for new industry that moves in and Tennessee education STILL offers training in the skilled crafts needed to fill the positions as they become necessary.

Finally!  These ol’ hillbillies know how to make things work! We don’t ask for a lot of help, but we offer it freely!!  We stand up to be counted and we put in the work.

We have the base to support new industry and the knowledge and skills to get the job done.

*I won’t mention that despite the “southern drawl” we DO KNOW HOW to pronounce words that end in “R”!!

*(well, I guess I’ll mention that after all!:rolleyes: :lol:)

I lived in Maryville for 7 years and now Knoxville for 3. I hope this deal goes through, but since I’ve been in Tennessee, I’ve seen an ammo company and a gun company make promises to move here.

They both just used the state’s offer as leverage to get a better deal back home.

Interesting.  The bigot who wrote that thinks murder is a legitimate use of firearms.

There is zero chance that anyone in MA would agree to give S&W anything.  Of course, they might be negotiating with another state, and using TN as a stalking horse; but so far, it sounds like a reasoned decision to head to your neighborhood.

I've dealt with quite a few people with that sort of mentality. They couldn't care less that workers in MA may lose their jobs. As far as they're concerned, if you work for a gun manufacturer then you're as bad as the Nazis who built the V-1 and you deserve to lose your job. It's your fault for not making baby bottles or recyclable food containers instead.

But if and when the present tooling for revolvers needs replaced, would S & W put the new tooling back in MA or put the new tooling in  another place  with a new facility in a gun friendly low tax state?
