Ya pay a premium price for pre-worn-out britches! (And I too learned at a reeeal early age how to patch my own jeans. Got good at it!)

But I know what you mean. First time my older cousin came home after buying a pair like that, my grandma said they look like what we give to the really poor people. Pat Riot
Sometimes the words “fashion” and “sense” definitely do not go together. I remember in the 80’s when ripped jeans were the rage and they were expensive. I got the same effect with battery acid when changing a truck battery that cracked. People asked me where I got my pants and how much I paid. They were just my knocking around mechanic pants. I didn’t tell them that.

MizPete
Back in the 60's my Mama made my bell bottoms because we couldn't buy them in town. Cyrus Cassidy #45437
No kidding, I grew up poor by American standards. I was the blue collar kid in a college town, and very much looked down upon. We didn't have much, and I got one pair of jeans at the beginning of each school year. That's all we could afford. One evening after an evening church service, I was running outside and slipped. I fell down and tore the knee out of my new jeans and cut up my knee pretty badly. My old man accused me of doing it on purpose because it was a style, refusing to acknowledge that I was bleeding everywhere. Then he tanned my hide. Raylan
I remember in the early 70's our parents came home with the school clothes for the year for us kids and they excitedly told us they got us these new jeans from Sears that were guaranteed not to fade.............., lets just say us kids weren't so happy about that but we knew enough to keep our mouths shut. I also recall big iron on patches that had the consistancy of rough canvas combined with vulcanized rubber.

Alpo
You really need to be in a room full of drunk filkers, singing it at the top of their lungs. Filkers are wonderful. The fans have all gathered 'neath bright ballroom lights To sing of strange planets and rockets in flight The bars are all empty, they've closed for the night They can't take the sound of our si-i-inging So belt out whatever note suits you The rest will join in, each one in his own key And it's fair-thee-well all semblance of harmony All of the filkers are si-i-inging When filksinging starts, 'midst this gathering of friends The hotel staff screams, "dear God when will it end?" The drunks and the tone deaf add spice to the blend Of what we have the gall to call si-i-inging So belt out whatever note suits you The rest will join in, each one in his own key And it's fair-thee-well all semblance of Harmony All of the filkers are si-i-inging
