What rifle(s) do you use for you main match gun

Recommended Posts

I am sure that all of us have at least 1 main match rifle. Some of us have more than one Main Match rifle.

I am just storta curious; simply based on ownership, what are the most popular mail match rifes out there?

Not, favorite, just most commonly owned.

For the sake of simplicity, I don't think there is any need to make a distinction between orginals or who made the reproduction.

I'll start the poll off

1 Henry

1 '73

3 '92s

1 Lightning

What else is out there?

My primary go-to rifle is the Marlin 24" barel Cowboy in .38/.357 I started out with over 10 years ago.

Also have a '73 in .38, a '73 in .45 (used for classic cowboy), a Marlin .45 Cowboy Comp (used for Wild Bunch), and a '92 chambered in .454/.45 Colt tuned by Nate Kiowa Jones.

Lorelei shoots the same Marlin Cowboy Comp in .38 she started with 10 years ago.

I have the same two. Plus a Marlin in .45, but I haven't used it since I got the '73's.

I love my Marlin Cowboy Limited in 45 Colt...BUT, my new match rifle is going to be the '73 Sporter Deluxe in 44 WCF...:)

Back-up is the 1860 Henry and the little '92...both in 45 Colt.

My bride and I share a '73 in 45 colt. BUT- after I cut down the stock for her, she told me it's time to buy my own rifle! :D:wub: The plan is for that to be a '66 in 45 colt which will happen really soon! ;)

My main match lever rifles.

I started cas in 1992 with a Rossi 1892 in 357. Still using it as my main match rifle.

I have several other Rossi's in 357 and a Winchester 92 in 32-20. Non used in cas.

I also have a 1860 Henry I use as a main match rifle when shooting BP. It started life as a 45 Colt and was re-barreled as a 44-40.

So the short answer is two...

1. Rossi 92 in 357

2. Uberti Henry in 44-40
