Nimble Fingers SASS# 25439 Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Saw it just now, and the 3 hours flew by! Loved the story, the locations and the music! Not as accurate firearms wise but that doesn’t bother me growing up with Winchester 92’s all over Hollywood! Can’t wait for Aug 16th for chapter 2!!! Do yourself a favor and go see it, my wife loved it too!
Rooster Ron Wayne Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I'm waiting for all of them to be released and just buy it . It looks very good though. Rooster
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 We should support the western movies on the big screen as they are released to keep them being made. In this case chapters 3 & 4 may not ever be made if everyone waits for the later release to watch chapters 1 & 2 at home.
Deadeye Joe Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Just got back from the theater. I thought it was fantastic, although not as a stand-alone film because the storylines introduced reach no resolution. I heard complaints that it was too slow and not enough action. I thought it was well paced, but take that with a grain of salt because I just finished reading Lonesome Dove.
Dawg Hair, SASS #29557 Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Sorry, but if it is any kind of a series I'll pass. Can't stand series.
Smokin Gator SASS #29736 Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 It's tricky to make 4 movies like this and have each one come to a satisfactory conclusion while still setting up the next ones. They should work as stand alone movies but with the setup for the next one.

PowderRiverCowboy Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Ever since Costner went full liberal In Deadwood , I will never pay a cent for anything he does.

Defiance Kid Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 My wife and I enjoyed it and will watch the rest of them. He is entitled to his views, I don't have to agree with them and he doesn't have to agree with me. I don't care about his politics, he is a paid actor.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 It sounds like he won’t have the funding for three and four.

When he didnt get his way he defaulted on payments for work he had done and cried as he closed Silverado without telling anyone. %^&$ Costner

If not him who else is going to make westerns? Big differences between what you consider as series, and what Costners series and a continuous storyline. I also remember "we are all starving for westerns", words used when Walt Disney disastrous Johnny Depps Lone Ranger movie was released. Words here were also uttered how we had to attend to show westerns were still wanted by the audiences. That movie probable turned more audiences away and Disney losy billions while Depp laughed all the way to the Bank. Seriously, Costner would have a bigger audience and made more money if he had put it as a mini series on one of many TV channels. Its how Yellowstone, Lonesome Dove, and other series made westerns popular and made money.

If you would rather stay home and watch TV, great! But I saw this film, and it went really quick for three hours, was entertaining throughout it and left ME AND MY WIFE wanting more. So we are both entitled to our opinions. Kevin Costner did a great job and I will see Chapter One again before Aug 16th when Chapter 2 comes out.
Long Fingers, SASS#56813 Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 The national reviews seem to be split about 50/50 like vs not so much. The different threads on the wire seem to suggest the same split, maybe leaning a little towards like because we want to like westerns. Chatter from the audience after we viewed the movie was not very positive, “that was a waste of time, no need to see the rest. “ I would agree with some of the others, the movie format would have been better as a mini series, develop the store lines and become invested in the characters. This review summed it up for me, “It’s too bad because the film starts out strong with a raid on the settlement that is visceral and captivating but it keeps switching stories before the audience can become attached to a narrative or set of characters. I was joking on twitter that this is similar to rom-coms like Valentines Day that tells so many stories but none of them could hold a movie on their own or are interesting to the audience. I guess at least Utah looks nice so there’s that but it’s all surprisingly forgettable for a saga.”
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 NEW YORK (AP) — The August theatrical release for the second chapter of Kevin Costner’s ambitious Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga” has been canceled after the first film fizzled in theaters. New Line Cinema announced Wednesday that “Horizon: Chapter 2” will not hit theaters on Aug. 16 as scheduled. The studio had planned an unusually fast back-to-back release for the two “Horizon” films. But after the first chapter collected a modest $23 million in its first two weeks in theaters, the distributor pivoted. Forget about chapters 3 and 4.
Dantankerous Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I saw Horizon and very much enjoyed it. Lots going on but very well done in about every aspect. Looking forward to part two. It's a western and well done. We need more of the same.
ORNERY OAF Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 As bad as folks say, he shoulda brought Taylor Sheridan back in . He seems to have the hot hand in scummywood right now, he makes good stuff.
Blackwater 53393 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 All this movie and its sequels needs is for folks to ignore the dumbassed critics and go see the movie themselves!! It’s a really well put together film with several great storylines!! The acting is good to great and the scenery is tremendous!! I’m STILL not revealing the stories. Y’all should really go and see this one!!
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 "For now, the release of “Chapter 2” will be marked TBD on the theatrical calendar. The first “Horizon,” which opened in theaters on June 28, will land on premium on-demand July 16. No streaming date on Max has yet been announced. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the shift in plans." Looks like you can see it from home starting next week.
Blackwater 53393 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Like I said on another thread, you need to see this one on the big screen!! Even those big 85” flat screens won’t do it justice!!
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Plans for a theatrical release of chapter 2 have been scrapped.

Tex Jones, SASS 2263 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Probably the first two will end up on streaming. Some of the critics mentioned that the films should have been released to cable networks. I don't know if Costner will be able to finance parts 3 and 4, but if he can they'll probably go straight to streaming.
Capt. R. Hugh Kidnme Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Saw it today. Agreed that the three hours flew by. A magnificent film all around. Cinematography, locales, character portrayals, brilliant acting, script, story lines, score........ And, it's a serial film folks.........if all the story lines wrapped up at the end........it would be a stand alone, one off film.

DELAYED, not scrapped. As said here “Chapter 1” needs more revenue, both in theaters and video on demand. I have been a member since early 2000s and all that time every has complained that there aren’t enough westerns made, well here’s one and instead of running to the theaters to see it, I keep hearing excuses! Go see the film!
Tom Bullweed Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I saw it last week. My opinion was that it was a 7 out of 10 and no where close to Open Range, either True Grit, or Lonesome Dove. That last 15-20 minutes was not entertaining and not clear. Poor use of cussing and too much ski. for my tastes.
Captain Bill Burt Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I was enjoying Yellowstone until Sheridan and Costner got in a pi$$ing match and ruined the series. There are several actors who were making a name for themselves in that series, good ole Kev left them high and dry to go do his own thing.
