Snakebite
"Outlawed Items: Short Sleeve Shirts (male competitors only)." I've seen several discussions about this over the years and found that quite a few members feel that this rule doesn't have to be followed. We all know that the "Dress Code" has been constantly sliding down hill for a good while now. We see so many shooters wearing Wranglers and Rodeo Shirts that it has become an accepted practice. Re-alignment of the rules over time have allowed some things into the game that were not allowed in the past. I'm starting to see a few people wearing short sleeve shirts. I don't know if it is a Protest/Challenge/Dare or what the reason, but I do know that it is in direct conflict to the rules. From my view it seems that it is becoming more difficult to enforce the rules in this game.

Marshall Matt Dillon
I wish they would change the rule! Long sleeves and a hat in middle of hot summer. I probly will not shoot in the summer because of that. Why be uncomfortable?
Tequila Shooter
If you have a lightweight long sleeve shirt how much more cooling would there be if it were short sleeved? IMHO not all that much. And I also agree with @Attica Jack #23953

Springfield Slim SASS #24733
A light long sleeve shirt is cooler than a short sleeve as it blocks the sun but still allows evaporation. Plus, it's the rules. This isn't volley ball, it's Cowboy Action Shooting.
The Rainmaker, SASS #11631
Here we go again! Why do you need to short sleeves? No, the "it's hot" argument does not hold water. I've shot in Arizona, California, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina... Yes folks, it gets hot... so what! Roll up your sleeves, get lighter weight shirts, wear a straw hat and on and on. If it comes down to it and you think it's too hot to wear a long sleeve shirt, it's probably too hot for a short sleeve. Did John Wayne wear a short sleeve? WWJWD Ya always do have that option... just don't shoot!
Billy Boots, # 20282 LTG-Regulator
Have not seen that abuse so far, except in terrible heat there are some clubs near who OK the lax in shirts. You and I both used the same sweet lady to make some of our pants at one time (and I dearly miss her) so with some of those pants just getting the age, I have gone to wearing Wrangler more and more. However, I install suspender "buttons" so to wear suspenders and look somewhat the part.
Polecat Joe
It doesn't get much warmer anywhere else then down here in south Florida and we abide by the dress code.
Griff
If it's too hot to wear a long sleeve shirt, it's too hot to sit on the patio having a mint julip! 'Sides, nobody wants to see those hairy-azzed sticks you call arms! Snakebite, are you wanting someone to back you up on enforcing the rules? I'll be right out, right after CARB relaxes their attitudes...
Abilene, SASS # 27489
As Billy Boots mentioned, a number of clubs in Texas have "summer dress code" for several months that allows shorts and short sleeved shirts (but no ball caps). As for myself, I ignore that and dress my normal attire (with my lighter shirts and no vest) and do fine.

The Rainmaker, SASS #11631
You're gonna pick up and use hot firearms (with BP even hotter) and want to have them near your bare arms? Why? Ever have a nice, hot piece of .45 Colt brass fall right into the crook of your elbow? Long sleeves for me!
Yohan
I roll my sleeves up even in the dead of winter when shooting Cowboy. Take my jacket of to shoot and put it back on in the winter but always have my sleeves rolled up to the crook of the elbow because I have been the recipient of HOT brass in the crook of the arm :-) If you can't wear shorts well be like the rest of us Scot's and wear a Kilt woo hoo just do not ask me to bend over :-)

Marshal Chance Morgun
Hey, if it grows the sport, ( notice I didn't say game ) what's the problem? I mean, that's what we need to do, right? It's about time that we dropped all this cowboy non-sense anyway. I mean, after all, we hear all the time that the reason people won't get into CAS is because of the clothing. Some don't want to do non shooting stuff on the clock, GONE. Some don't want story lines, GONE, some don't want starting lines, GONE. It's about time we got rid of the last couple of things that have been holding us back from unimaginable explosion of new shooters. We need to change the name, too. Keep SASS, but have it stand for Single Action Speed Shooting. Sarcasm mode off Yes, there are days when it is so hot and humid that clubs relax the dress code, and that is fine. I've seen a couple shooters struggle with over heating and we don't need that.

Patagonia Pete
1. Notice Rule (mentioned in the rule book) being ignored .. 2. Appeal violation to MD .. 3. MD acknowledges rule violaton but says you should go pound sand .. - please list occurrence - 1. 2. 3. I know a club that has does this occasionally for (select) monthly matches (along with changing the starting time) ... (pending a club member / match participant exclusion vote because somebody asked for a temporary accomodation .. citing/claiming health issues ... AND ... in an effort to make the accomodation available to all participants and not just the person/s making the request.) (lest someone view it as an advantage) ... quote from www.city-data.com ... "Phoenix has average highs(105-109 degrees) about 20 degrees warmer than Miami's average highs(87-89 degrees). Also, Phoenix can still get high humidity in its hottest months which some people dont realize. May 8, 2011"
Captain Bill Burt
But it's a dry heat.....j/k. I don't see much advantage to wearing a short sleeve shirt when I can just roll up my sleeves. I also don't think short sleeved shirts help as much with the heat as short PANTS do. Now there's a can of worms, or a stir of the pot, or a stir of the pot full of worms. Easier to get in and out of coveralls then with pants. I just bought some boots with horse hair on them. Wore them to restaurant last night with shorts. I looked cool! H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
I don't have a problem with the long sleeved shirts, and about the only time I ever wear one is at a SASS shoot. Sure, when it comes to 95 degrees and 97% humidity, which can happen here in New England a lot, I just drink a lot of water. And I am actually happy I don't have to put on more sunblock. But... Uh oh.... He mentioned Wranglers...

Rye Miles #13621
A light white long sleeved shirt is actually better in the heat. If the sun is out and there’s no cover you’d be protecting your skin, or roll them up as has been mentioned.

Seems RO2 was later and we, the potential RO instructors, were hosted at a range outside of Vegas for our initial training. I believe you was there. I can not remember if it was while at the Frontier Summit or later at Summit during convention. My TG beginning was for Texas Tenhorns and I went to Summit at Frontier, seems like around 2002, but not sure if even RO1 had started at that time.
