Banks have no problem cashing them and like Wasatch said, as long as the PO has the cash, they will cash them.

Any bank should cash a USPS money order.

I just deposit them through the automated teller at my bank. No problems whatsoever.

The post office charges a flat fee per money order regardless of amount. The maximum per mo is $1000 so if sending more than that 2 or more money orders are needed. Out here they are much cheaper than banks and there's no question about cashing them. Much as I hate to admit it, USPS money orders are better than private sector money orders.

I have never had any problem with depositing or cashing a USPS money order. What I do find strange is the charge to buy one has some kind of sliding scale depending on the amount. Never understood that. Takes the postal clerk same amount of effort for one for 10.00 as it does for 1000.00. And uses the same blank. Oh , well.

Hey Ron,

It may depend on where you are trying to cash it. A bank that you do not have an account with may charge you a handling fee, a quick stop or merchant may do the same, I think this is called a third party fee. If the local P.O. is doing this you may want to call the Postal inspectors for info..

That's why I use PayPal, it's just another bank account, IF YOU HAVE MONEY IN YOUR ACCOUNT it costs nothing to send money or for you to take money out of your account.

Quoted from the Paypal website: We don’t allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it’s in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition.

I don't like using a company that arbitrarily thinks it's "members" should be a gun free zone. Not to mention they want direct access to my bank account.

I use Postal MO's all the time when buying stuff. Last one I got (make that bought) was for $380 and it cost me $1.20 for the MO. They're like cash for the person that gets it. The PO doesn't charge for cashing it and my bank doesn't either. Never tried cashing one at a vendor or store. They might charge a fee for that.

Howdy,

Good to hear around the country you have had the same experience I have.

Thanks again.

PO does not charge a fee to cash and them have the money is a problem but banks no problem what so ever and no fee. If your PO charged a fee I would call post master generals office.

I ask for a cashiers check drawn on the bank whom I bank with(a major bank so its easy).......from there its instantly cleared thru my branch of bank and I can do same day shipping...... I have seen fraudulant money orders, fake checks, just about everything (my family worked in check fraud prevention for yrs) Other than that I make all buyers wait the 7-10 business days it may take to clear payment...... You almost always are charged a fee to cash a MO even if all gos well, so thats a bummer

Howdy,

I got to wondering about your attitude and thought maybe I missed something.

Brian82 is a pretty weird alias, couldn't you find something a tiny bit more western/

I mean you LIVE in the real west, pard??

Fake US Postal Money Orders could get some body a TEN year stay in the grey bar hotel.

Seems most pards have no problem so.....

And it's much safer for transactions as the buyer than any other form of payment.

Unless paypal finds out you have violated their rules, then they freeze your account for up to 6 weeks.

Only problem I've had was when I purchased something in another state and seller said he never received the MO. I had to pay $6 to run a tracer and then wait up to 90 days before PO would issue another MO. Fortunately, seller found the MO in his mail "pile" 2 weeks later and cashed it.

Just felt like I was at the mercy of the PO and would've had to waited up to 90 days to get my money if it had been lost.

Been using PayPal for a dozen years or so and have never had my account frozen. I have had a few instances where seller did not come through and I had to file a claim. Money was refunded the next day. Compare that to the time the post office misplaced a money order I sent next day guaranteed. They finally found it about 3 weeks later. I got my $20 buck, but lost out on a sale.

+1

I was out the original $400 plus the replacement $400 for the full 90 days in order not to stiff the seller.

Howdy,

Seems like nobody is perfect. Paypal is something I never had but often thought about.

Of course the OTHER guy has to have an account too......

And paypal/ebay sell all sorts gun stuff but SOME gun stuff is bad.?.?.?

90 days is a long time but it gave that other fella time to look thru the 'pile' of mail.

I don't have any mail piles.

Plenty of other piles round hea tho.

I once sent a check to a pard.

He never got it.

about three weeks later I sent another check for the same bucks to the same address

mailed in the same mailbox. He got it two days later.

More than 12 years have gone by and that first check has never surfaced.

The pard had already sent me my beautiful Elgin pocket watch.

Like most on the wire he trusted I would make it right. RIGHT?

You need to get a different bank.

Can't blame the bank. There's fakes Floating around.

Howdy,

Ive seen fake money on display by police.

It really isn't all that good.

Most of it is meant to be stuck in the middle of a stack of bills.

Any pix of these terriffical fake us postal money orders?

Ever seen any?

I am very doubtful, willing to learn of course.....

Same here. W.F. & Co. deposit only. I've heard that there've been some stolen & counterfeit USPS MOs in the past few years.

Strange, I cashed $1,100 worth of PMOs at my Wells Fargo Bank Friday, I endorsed them, handed them to the teller with my ID and he handed me the cash.

The merchant can refuse to accept any tender they choose.

The bank must accept money (assuming it is US minted) and their own cashiers checks.

The P.O. must accept a valid US Postal service Money Order, US Stamps and money.

I have had, on occasion, a problem making a purchase with a Two Dollar bill and with Dollar coins. I had another merchant, in California, refuse to accept my gas credit card because it had a Nevada address on it.

Go figure.
