Perhaps I missed it in the description, 12 gauge?

Where in the rule book does it say that any category has to shoot the rifle from the shoulder? so, how could a penalty ever be warranted for shooting it from the hip?

I think that is the same article I was thinking of. Did it say that he was using two originals to make one 45 acp version? Cutting them in to from grip to breach, off center to gain the extra meat needed to have the necessary width. Of curse at that time the originals, assuming they were not some rare 10 inch artillery model or something, were less than $500 for the most part.

They do not qualify has "hammer guns" to satisfy the requirements in SASS, but may be used as a shotgun in other categories.
