Calamity Kris
When we lived in Cali, we used to volunteer at an annual Halloween charity event at the Universal Studios back lot. We would decorate our section of the back lot and hand out candy donated by manufacturers to trick or treaters. They also had local restaurants giving away their food in case the guests got hungry. Those trick or treaters would pay to come in and participate, with all the proceeds going to Ronald McDonald charities. It would attract thousands of celebrities and elites from all around the area. I got to meet people like Will and Jada Smith and their family, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, Alice Cooper, Jerry Seinfeld and many others. I was usually too busy to strike up a conversation with any of them though.

Loophole LaRue, SASS #51438
Once represented the LA Lakers, including Mitch Kupchak and Kurt Rambis, when they were both still playing. Two of the most down-to-earth, regular guys you could ever meet. Regular except for size. Kupchak was so tall that he had to have his Volvo dealer remove the sunroof and install a dome to get enough headroom; the dealer also installed a 10" steering wheel to give Mitch room to put his knees up alongside the wheel. Â Rambis was John Denver on stilts. A laid back surfer, every doorway in his house was raised to 9', and his bed was extended to the same size. His wife coached the LA professional tennis franchise at the time; while watching a match, I also met Billie Jean King. Â Have met a whole bunch of Republican politicians. Mitt Romney is undoubtedly the smartest guy in the room. Any room. Â LL

Seamus McGillicuddy
Jack Soo from "Barney Miller" rode in my cab once. Only solo passenger who ever sat in the front seat. He didn't say much but he whistled the whole ride. Â Also Alex Trebek when I was on "Jeopardy" (Yes, "I Lost on Jeopardy"). Â Shook hands with Mandy Patinkin, Judy Collins and Christopher Titus at meet and greets following concerts. Â Met the old ballplayer Juan Pizarro at the team's hotel where my Mom was working. Mom had a funny story about encountering Michael Jackson at the Kahala Mall in Hawaii back in the 1980s. Mom: "Aren't you Michael Jackson?" MJ: "Why yes, how did you know?" Mom: "Well, somebody would have had to been off living in a cave somewhere the last 20 years not to recognize you". (She had a way with words) MJ: "He, he" Bout then he was spotted by others and mobbed by autograph seekers so she just slipped away. Dirty Dan Dawkins
Never met anyone of no count, but I do have a story to share. Â One time I got pulled over in a school zone for speeding. It was raining heavily. As the officer leaned in my window to go over the ticket, I farted. I couldn't hold it in. It was like my stomach was about to explode. I had eggs that morning, lots of them, and it smelt real bad. I mean REAL bad. He decided it was better to be wet. You shoulda seen the look on his face. True story. I still laugh when I think about that expression he made. Edited January 20, 2017 by Dirty Dan Dawkins

Mud Marine,SASS#54686 Life
My great uncle was a well known silent movies star. His second wife was an actress. What a GREAT deal. She had a mansion in Beverly Hills with a pool and servants. What an awesome deal for a starving young Marine. My cousin was a swabbie and also availed himself of her place. Â She was always having parties and we met a lot of those jerks!!! Â I ran track in HS with an "evil" actor, tried to make time with a famous lady in my family basement (without success) had a bit part riding in some Westerns and met two famous brothers in those movies. Â Their personalities ranged from great to slime just like the rest of us.

Pat Riot
That would have been a perfect time to use Doc Holliday's line in Tombstone, "Pardon me if I don't shake your hand" Yes it would have, but at that time I was pretty sure that if I met that man I would have decked him. Had that offer been made a few years earlier, I know I would have without any thought on what the consequences would bring. When the offer was made about a dozen scenarios went through my mind. Eleven of which involved me being swarmed by the Secret Service and my life and career ending as I knew it. I chose number 12 and politely declined.
