The governor of New York, who signed the bill getting rid of that old law. Her picture is at the top of the article. Grinning like a jackass eating briars.

Some morality laws are excessive and allow “the state” to dictate what truly is none of the state’s business. Any law that interferes with individual freedoms should be tossed out.

I think having a law against adultery is important in divorce cases. If one spouse is cheating on the other it’s a good reason to bring up in divorce court.

I agree with that in a way.  I don't figure it's any of the government's... ANY GOVERNMENT'S damned business... to get involved in anyone's morals.

In Canada, the adultery clause was removed from the divorce laws, nationally, a few decades ago.

Now it's "Irreconcilable Differences"

A side note: up until 1963 divorces were handled by Parliament, then the Senate. That was changed in 1968.

Why because I think infidelity can be a form of mental abuse and therefore I believe it can be grounds for divorce. I’m obviously not a lawyer so it’s just my opinion.

The picture is from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago '24.

That said ^^^, I detest cheaters, liars and thieves. A person that cheats on their spouse, or significant other, is all three.

Don’t people use Private investigators to see if they’re spouse is cheating on them or is that just on PI shows?

Yes, but I don’t believe that is the business of “The State”.
I feel the same as you. There are other avenues to fixing scum.

Yes, they do.

I've been on quite a few residential jobsites in affluent neighborhoods and noticed non-descript, late model cars sitting on the street for hours with the driver slouched down in the driver's seat trying to not be noticed. I noticed it seven times

The first time I noticed it, I thought that they were casing the jobsite to steal stuff, so I went and asked what they were doing and get their tag number. The first one I approached was a PI for spousal infidelity, so were the next three I asked over the years. Two were PIs investigating workmens comp fraud. One sped off when approached, I guess he was a thief but I don't know.

Maybe Bill was behind this?

Can't blame him though...

And opinions are like asses: everybody has one.

Some people are one, and some don't know their's from a hole in the ground.  A lot of people have their head up theirs, and way too many spend a lot of time kissing someone else's.

Mine's been handy a number of times when I have fallen on it (or been knocked on it).   I have also kicked a few in theirs.  Not so handy any more because mine is no longer very well padded and it hurts more.

I also try to find something once a day to cause me to laugh mine off.

And I am proud to say I have  black belt in being a horse's one.

Lord, I've got to go get some coffee. :D

It used to be that someone had to be at fault and a trial would be held. Nofault divorce was added and the split could be by mutual agreement, irreconcilable differences it was called.  It cuts the lawyers’ shares a tad if the parties can agree.

Legality should not be the only consideration.  For many here, I'm sure Marital Commitments, particularly those made before God,  mean just that.

the libertarian in me says the government has no place in this , but the realist that sees the legal profession digging into everything says there have to be rules
