The dollar kept has nothing to do with it. Plus the $ 2 dollars paid back is $100.

It's like showing a kid you have 11 fingers,

Hold all 10 out and fold down the fingers on one hand 10, 9, 8,7 ,6 and hold up the other hand. AND 5 more equals 11!

Or count them all off one by one, but say the number 8 after each count.

1 8, 2 8, 3 8, 4 8, 5 8, 6 8, 7 8, 9 8, 10 8, 11 8...

I'm trying to decide if the stupid one here is the guy in the picture - so he's actually being quoted - or the guy that just dreamed up the meme.

Saw that on NCIS one time. McGee said something about "grasping at straws", and Abby corrected him and said he should be saying "grasping at hollow polystyrene tubes". Because she was a scientist. And just saying straws wasn't enough. You mean paper straws or plastic straws or stainless steel straws?

And I'm sitting there thinking, hell for a scientist you're pretty damn stupid. The term grasping at straws refers to shafts of grain. Wheat straw or oak straw. Basically a piece of grass.

Because when you're out in the river and you're drowning, and this piece of straw goes floating by, while you would rather have a nice big log to catch hold of so you don't go under, you will grasp at the straw.

When were you in California?

ADDED:

Prices are down somewhat...I'm seeing some regular at around  $3.80/gallon.

Two years ago it was $7 around here.  Some places in San Francisco were close to $10.00

The last time was in 1969. My grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. We weren't going to go, because that's a long way. But then Camille was supposed to make landfall in our town, so Daddy decided we needed to go to LA. Sun City, actually.

That, by the way, is why I decided never to evacuate from a hurricane. We left out in the early afternoon. Camille was supposed to hit our town the next morning. We spent the night in some little bitty town in Mississippi.

The way Daddy did road trips is we would get up at 3:00 in the morning, pack and hit the road. Travel for a couple hours, then pull off somewhere for breakfast. While we were eating breakfast the morning rush was going on as people were going to work. Then we would stop about 3:00 in the afternoon. Before the evening rush. Mama and Daddy could relax, while we kids played in the motel playground or the pool. Great way to do long distance road trips.

So at 3:30 the next morning we are on the road headed west. And at 7:00 the next morning Camille blew that itty bitty town in Mississippi  off the map.

So there ain't no sense in evacuating. If the hurricane wants you, it will chase you.

My folks 25th.

If I  recall at that time gas was around 30 to 35 cents per gallon,  certainly not over 40 cents.  When I started driving a couple of years later the Texaco that we always used was at 34 cents for regular.

It's also called bioweapon defense preparedness. I never understood why anybody wanted to stop that.

Pretty much agree.
Sort of an extension of the MAD concept. (Mutually Assured Destruction)
If they have it we have to have it as well   And in order to properly defend ourselves we have to have a better version so they don’t use theirs…….
said by both sides.
Only a few problems, such as where does the research end? And of course both sides are at the mercy of whoever has the LEAST stable leadership.

And what happens when said "defensive preparedness" accidentally (or purposefully as in China IMO) gets released?

It wouldn't be the first time a bio was accidentally, or purposefully, released on an unsuspecting public.

As far as where the research ends...it doesn't. It just keeps running in ever escalating, and increasingly lethal, circles.
