Are there really, as he claims, lots of active duty and vets who "feel the way he does"????? LL My guess is that he was probably very gung ho as a high schooler, but for whatever reasons his attitude shifted once at West Point. Whether a result of a rebellion against the environment of a military academy, fear at the realization that he could be going into harm's way, the awareness that he doesn't actually have what it takes inside to be a leader regardless of his success there, or some other factor or combination. I'm sure psychological testing of him would be fascinating. As it is, I certainly hope the Army puts him on the hook for the value of his education, and makes sure it is paid in full. Too many people would have walked into his shoes and been successful given the opportunity, and more yet never had the opportunity. As for your second question, "lots?" In the greater scheme of things, no. Are they out there? Of course. Given the numbers of military and veterans, it is almost guaranteed that there are socialists and communists in the ranks, serving quietly. There are plenty of veterans who have become disillusioned with the military, the use of the military by the government, and what our own government stands for. You have to think though, to him, thousands would likely constitute "lots." As a percentage of our military community though, that is a drop in the bucket. If he's basing his estimate on social media activity, even if he went to the trouble of counting individuals instead of just adding up his "likes" and "shares," he'd be completely buried if even 1% of veterans and active duty people responded to him. Also, just because somebody likes or comments favorably on a post doesn't mean they support you. I imagine a lot of his "followers" are too yellow to hang a Cuban or Russian flag on their front porch. I wonder if my grandson ever saw the guy. He drives a truck for the 10th. Pat Riot
If I recall in my discussions with Officers when I was in the Navy for every year of college paid for by the Navy one was obligated to serve a year. If something occurred that one couldn't fulfill his or her obligation the Navy expected reimbursement. But I do not know any of the details in this regard. As to how many Commies are in our military? One is one too many. I have known people that were very left leaning that served in the military. When I asked how they felt about the military and their politics the usual answer was that they didn't broadcast their political leanings, but each one of these individuals did their duty and served honorably. That is all anyone can ask and I can respect that, even though I did not agree with their politics.

Trigger Mike
it amazes me how those with an education and the ability to explore things around them still think communism works after watching communist countries fall apart or stay stagnant in poverty. They were at war with each other when Hitler (Socialism) attacked USSR (Communism) in Operation Barbarosa. pretty good breakdown here in a nutshell. Quote The Difference Between Communism and Socialism Communism and socialism are economic and political structures that promote equality and seek to eliminate social classes. The two are interchangeable in some ways, but different in others. In a communist society, the working class owns everything, and everyone works toward the same communal goal. There are no wealthy or poor people -- all are equal, and the community distributes what it produces based only on need. Nothing is obtained by working more than what is required. Communism frequently results in low production, mass poverty and limited advancement. Poverty spread so widely in the Soviet Union in the 1980s that its citizens revolted. Like communism, socialism’s main focus is on equality. But workers earn wages they can spend as they choose, while the government, not citizens, owns and operates the means for production. Workers receive what they need to produce and survive, but there’s no incentive to achieve more, leaving little motivation. Some countries have adopted aspects of socialism. The United Kingdom provides basic needs like healthcare to everyone regardless of their time or effort at work. In the U.S., welfare and the public education system are a form of socialism. Both are the opposite of capitalism, where limitations don’t exist and reward comes to those who go beyond the minimum. In capitalist societies, owners are allowed to keep the excess production they earn. And competition occurs naturally, which fosters advancement. Capitalism tends to create a sharp divide between the wealthiest citizens and the poorest, however, with the wealthiest owning the majority of the nation's resources.
