New Magazine?

Recommended Posts

Just went to Safeway to pick up some chili and chicken wings. Stopped by the magazine rack and spied a magazine I don't remember seeing before. It is titled Gunslingers Firearms of the Old West. Just flipping through the pages it looks like about 50% antiques and articles about the good old days and 50% reproductions. There is no volume or issue number so I don't know if this will be a continuing mag or a one-off special edition. At any rate, it is all cowboy guns and none of the black gun/1911 stuff that totally fills most other gun magazines.

Well, there is a new one on the shelf. I thought I might have seen something like it before. This is the current edition.

That's great! Something to look forward to. I'm going to try and track these down. Thanks for bringing this up!

Amazon says it's a Single Issue Magazine. They're sold out.

If this is the one I am thinking it is, It has an article on the NH state championship. I did not think there were any of these left. If it is cover your eyes because it has a picture of me in it. it does have some pctures of some the northeast regulars.

Gunslingers Firearms of the Old West winter / spring issue just hit the Bi-Mart store in my area today. Picked it up. Thanks for the info. Driftwood Dan from the Wet and Windy Central Oregon Coast.

It looks like you can order single issues from here:

Great link....thanks for sharing this. I did a little further research and found a coupon code that you can use to save 10%....the code is WINTER10 and you can find it here. I ordered the two copies and also bought a subscription.

What is normal Grocery store price? You who have bought, is this magazine a $10.00 read? i know, each has their own opinion, but asking nevertheless. looks good, but if I buy one, probably will want all three....then one becomes a $30+ read. ha

I've spent $10 on worse magazines. I like what I've read so far. I will say the Cap & Ball 101 article needs to be removed and written by someone who knows what the heck they are doing; for example there is one picture of him putting caps on with his thumb

I picked up my second issue at Barnes and Nobles today. It was located in the history magazine section instead of the firearms section.

Interesting article about holsters in

Great find! I'll be in the lookout for it.

Interesting article on holsters in this one. Only thing I find "wrong" is a detail on the website for that first holster shown. Yes, you go to www.gunfighter.com, but you need to click on "Trailrider Products" once you get there. ^_^

I also found the article on the Sharps .50-70 Carbine interesting. Even after the cavalry was issued the M1873 Trapdoor Carbines in .45-70/.45-55, some units retained a few of the Sharps to arm their civilian employees of the QM Dept. who went to the field with the troops. Also, with a limitation of 3 rd per man per month of the .45-70 ammo, target practice and foraging could use the thousands of rounds of .50-70 ammo still in stock.

I finally found 2 of the magazines at Barnes & Noble. Justice Lily Kate sure did do a great article on SASS! Not that I am biased on this article or anything ; )

Great showing of the ladies.

I paged through it and didn't think it was worth $10.00! Actually I'm not going to renew my subscription to GOTOW magazine either. It's just not worth the money. I want to support such a venue but can't justify the bucks!
