Yul Lose Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 I got into Arizona last night and spent the night in a little town called Wittman. A local pard and his wife were gracious enough to put me up for a couple of nights until I can get into my permanent place tomorrow. This morning I went up to the Ben Avery shooting range the home of EOT. I assisted Rattlesnake Slim and his crew in assembling a whole bunch of gun carts that we’ll rent for the match, kind of like a jig saw/erector/Lego set combined. Here are some pictures of the stages, still some work being done but come Monday it’ll be ready. They’re putting some finishing touches on the big tent and a few vendors are moving in. I think they’ve done a tremendous job putting this EOT together, they should all be very proud.
WOODFOX , sass#34179 Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Nice pictures thanks for sharing
Old Man Graybeard Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Wish I was there…but not happening for a couple more years.

Rattlesnake Slim Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 Thanks Yul, for your kind words and your generous offer to coordinate the cart corral.
doc roy l. pain Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 Just curious. How many of these stages are permanent?

None , they have to assemble/ disassemble them every year. Rex OOPS , wrong again. Edit: I should have kept my mouth shut. I was thinking that Ben Avery had them tear down after every Winter Range shoot. Things change.
Lone Spur Jake SASS #7728 Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 The Saloon, Fort Sinclair, and Coosie's General Store are permanent buildings used all year long by the ACSA shooters.
Texas John Ringo, SASS #10138 Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 I shot at Ben Avery in 1984, in the fall, at the IPSC Nationals. It was COLD.
Turquoise Bill, SASS #39118 Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 Temps are forecast to be in the 80's and high 70's all week next week! Thanks Hells Comin! TB

Buckshot Sheridan Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 9 of the 12 are built from scratch each year the other 3 have the main structure, but still have any external movement areas rebuilt each year.
Yul Lose Posted February 28, 2022 Author Posted February 28, 2022 Wild Bunch Monday dawns cold and windy. The gun cart corral is where I’ll be spending a lot of my time.
Yul Lose Posted February 28, 2022 Author Posted February 28, 2022 A few views from the cart corral towards the main tent. WB safety meeting about to start. Look at those flags, the wind has them straight out.

Hells Comin Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 It was really nice talking to you yesterday, how is it you can remember things that happened 15 years ago and I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday. Hells Comin

Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Phoenix is in a valley and is warmer than the snow covered north. So it is fairly normal for a morning wind to come down the canyon at Ben Avery. After it warms up a bit the wind dies down, usually around 10:00 am. Here is a shot of WR/EOT from the air a few years ago. It is supposed to be in the 80's Monday through Thursday and then cool off a bit Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Looks like perfect shooting weather. (At least for us desert rats. I am shivering if it is below 70.)
