Rye Miles #13621 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 If CAS stopped tomorrow what would ya substitute with? I guess I'd do the IDPA thing and I always did like trap and skeet. It sure would be a boring world without cowboy shooting' !!! Rye
Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Hi Rye, I think we'd keep going at the local level. We have a good local Website as do many other areas. Many clubs are also on Facebook. If the loss of a sanctioning body was really missed, I'd check out W3G (our local club is no longer going) or the OWSS. Regards, Allie Mo
Grizzly Dave Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 When I found CAS I was looking for a shooting sport to enjoy, I actually was slated to go to an IDPA match that fateful Saturday but I overslept so I visited a CAS match instead at a closer range. The rest is history. Still haven't shot a sanctioned IDPA match, they're on the same Saturdays as my cowboy matches. Did shoot a similar 'defensive pistol' match, it didn't grab me like cowboy. I imagine my local clubs would still play cowboy no matter what the world around us did, call it a western stubbornness. But just for the sake of conversation, I reckon I'd have a go at IDPA and Ruger Rimfire.
Prof. Fuller Bullspit Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I would have room in my gun safe and my closet. I would be less poor in money. I would be more poor in friends. I don't know that I would substitute anything for CAS.

DocWard Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 If there were no CAS anywhere, I would probably migrate back to shooting amateur trap. I'm an ATA life member, although I haven't shot a registered shoot in a number of years.
Curley Fryes Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Well, I am part of an old west reenactor group. I guess I'd be doing more reenacting.
Cliff Hanger #3720LR Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I would go back to shooting cans and paper plates in the canyon near by with my western guns.. That's where JD Walker and Rebel Bell found me in the early 90s. I am not sure whether to thank JD Walker or hold against him for bringing me in to cas.
Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 If CAS didn't exist - Would probably get back into ATV GNCC at some level and improve my golf game as far as shooting I would get back into rendez-vous and maybe check out BPCR. GG ~
Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Fishin? Needlepoint? Politics? the last one would probably kill ya UB GG ~
Noz Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Break out the 41 mags and do high power pistols again and do a lot of fishing.
Hacker, SASS #55963 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 A new .org would be formed not a .com. It would take time. We would have a more completely integrated rule book. But CAS would continue. Growing the state, regionals and nationals would be time consuming. A new name would be necessary as well to avoid WB entanglements. This all assumes that CAS stopped as related to WB SASS issues not some government problems.
Marshal Dan Troop 70448 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 If CAS was to end, I would keep my Colt and 92. Sell everything else and purchase more fully-auto weapons of WW2, and add to my USAAF and Luftwaffe collection. MT
Birdgun Quail, SASS #63663 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I think I'd just have to comtemplate the t-shirt lint in my navel.
Tom Foolery U.S.M. #2348 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Fishin? Needlepoint? Politics? The first and the last are both liars I'd be doing more fly fishing TF
Blackwater 53393 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 It would just mean more miles on my ol' Harley and some poor cop a bunch of more grey hair from trying to discourage my exploits into the realm of outlaw speed runs!! Thanks to Cowboy Action Shooting the highways are a calmer more harmonious place.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I think I'd just have to comtemplate the t-shirt lint in my navel. You could create the BAPTIST SHOOTING SOCIETY. Dedicated to shooting old Baptist.
Captain Woodrow Cahill, SASS # 54363 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 That three-gun tactical shooting looks like it'd be fun. Not sure what it's really called, but it looks a lot like CAS only with more modern weapons. Wonder if there's any of it in Ohio ... ?
Krazy Kajun Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 You could create the BAPTIST SHOOTING SOCIETY. Dedicated to shooting old Baptist. Hmmm...several ways to go on that one BMC. Does it mean you'd be shooting Baptists for competition? If so you need to move down south a mite so's you'd have more targets. Just know that we Baptists shoot back BSS.....could mean Bull $h*t Society....which in my case would be the same organization of folks as SASS in our neck of the woods. Or is there a separate Baptist category....kinda like left handed frontier cartridge squaw gripping shootist
Marshal Dan Troop 70448 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I think I'd just have to comtemplate the t-shirt lint in my navel. Navel? Isn't that were you start peeling an orange? MT

Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 KK, you got something against left handers?? Something about the brain/motor nerve/thingy. I deal cards with my left hand but everything else with my right. I guess I am a double dealing SOB (Sweet Old Buzzard)
Grizzly Dave Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I am left handed but can do most things other than write about equally well with my right hand. For instance I use either hand on the mouse just as well. At home, where I share with right handers I use it right handed, at work it's left handed partly because that's where it works best on my desk.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 No wonder I can't hit crap. I am shooting with my right hand and it confuses my sharp eagle eye.
Sergeant Smokepole #29248L Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I could live without an organized sport as I will enjoy shooting whatever I have in whatever manner I have. I will not under any circumstances lose contact with my friends and loved ones that I have been blessed to have not only made acquaintance with, but been invited as a member of their families and they to mine. Some things are just non negotiable....
Marshal Rusty Bore SASS#22739 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I'd have to contemplate suicide! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'm such a coward!!!!! IPSC or PPC.
Oconee Kid Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I suppose we would be able to change some of the rules. Like allowing for pistol only matches so the cost wouldn't be as much.
Calamity Kris Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Uno would probably find some other shooting sport to get into like Action Pistol. I would probably have to find a knitting circle or sewing guild to join so I could have someone to talk to...... Come to think of it, I might actually have time to sew.......
Calico Mary Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Kris, if we lived closer together you'd be more than welcome to get together with me and a few ladies I know who sew, we could all have a great ole time! I might actually get a couple of these half finished quilts I have laying around done
Utah Bob #35998 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Kris, if we lived closer together you'd be more than welcome to get together with me and a few ladies I know who sew, we could all have a great ole time! Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Bob, you would most likely stitch your fingers together. Best leave the important stuff to the ladies.
