Kidd Carson
Hi to all, I did not see a new to the forum category or introduce yourself here so I thought I'd place a post here and see what happens. If I'm out of line, please don't throw me out into the horse droppings. Just redirect me. My alias is - Kidd Carson. SASS #114891 I live in Ludington, Michigan where the S.S. Badger set sails from in the spring, summer and fall. I was originally from Calif (please do not hold that against me). In fact - Carson, Calif - that is where my Carson alias comes from. The Kidd part is from my 17+ years as a mechanic working with 20+ guys. I was the youngest when I started and was still the youngest 17+ years later. I was always called "Kid". So that is where the Kidd comes from. I have been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters and 3 Grand Kids - 2 grand Daughters and 1 Grandson. Living peacefully now at 72 and enjoying life. Started CAS this past year after watching a match. I was hooked. Took awhile to get ALL of the firearms together, but I have them now and will start CAS in the spring when the snow melts away. I find CAS to be both a Mental and Physical sport. I grew up watching the "Old western movies". Have gun will travel, Wagon Train, Rawhide, Wanted dead or Alive, Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, The Lone Ranger and so many others. I also owned a pair of "Fifty Fanners" cap guns back in 1959. Had a chance to meet Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Trigger back in 1962. That was a real treat. My Dad loved listening to Frankie Lane, Marty Robbins, and many others. I still have some of those old Mono albums from the '50's. Well that was pretty long winded, so I'll leave it at that and order another Sarsaparilla. Have a Happy Thanksgiving to all, Allen 13

Sixgun Seamus
Welcome to the fire. You are in the midst of a lot of good cowboy clubs. Go to a match, ask questions and have fun. We shoot the MI State match. Maybe we'll get to meet there. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
You can use the winter months well by working on your costumes and dry firing your firearms. I keep a worn-out cap and ball revolver that I use while watching old westerns to shoot the bad guys during the finale gun fight. It has helped me develop duelist skills. I too grew up watching westerns but missed Randolf Scott during his heyday. I'm now watching his movies that are new to me.

Kidd Carson
Thanks to all for the warm welcome and comments. This place is truly unique. And I will be practicing during these cold winter months in Michigan. I still have to figure out what is and what is not acceptable with a cross draw holster on the weak side (left hand). That 170 degree rule is still confusing me and most of the previous posts are now held in limbo. Again - Happy Thanksgiving to all

The guys that CAS in my club are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. My goal is to always have fun and not worry to much about my times. DocWard
Welcome to the fire! I can't add much to what has already been added, other than there are also a few dilettantes around, and if you get the chance to shoot with @Sixgun Seamus and Cayenne Kay, at a shoot, Do it! Oh, I'm fine with that hat, but did you have to steal Charlie Brown's shirt for your wild rag? He has a hard enough time as it is!

Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474
Cross Draw and the 170 degree rule: Just step your left foot forward and pivot your body enough to pull, keeping the muzzle down, then point downrange and bring your foot back. Likely videos on line demoing it or ask someone at the next match you attend to demo it. I like it because it keeps me from fumbling with a revolver, transferring it to my strong hand. There is also a draw that MAY be acceptable, in the ranges you frequent, called "The Cavalry Twist" One of our Cowboys, the former CO of Lord Strathcona's Horse, a Canadian armour Regiment used it all the time, drawing full size Walkers.
