Just wondering.

What are the largest matches for attendance after End of Trail and Land Run ?

What other possible meaningful metrics could there be?

 

Size of the range?

Fatness of the match director?

Quantity of porta potties?

 

Number of shooters is an absolute measurement that is applicable to any shoot.

 

Everything else that you evaluate a shoot by is an opinion.

My experience has been EOT>Comin at Cha>South East Regional>State matches in terms of # of shooters.  I'm with @Creeker I don't know of any other metric that matters when comparing the 'size' of matches.

Hello?! Any criteria other than the size of the dessert table is irrelevant!

THE most important "metric" is actually the number of "Port-a-Potties" and their placement.  Everything else is just Collateral

If there isn't enough or enough close there will definitely be some kind of collateral.

Desert Scorpion  had a single request when I was running Eldorado - had nothing to do with target size, placement or number of shotgun positions...

 

If there weren't red velvet cupcakes at the banquet - she wasn't coming.

  With all do respect that is opinion on your part .Large match could be days .of shooting  , number of stages,  vendor numbers . Different strokes for different folks.

300+ wasn't uncommon 15+ years back.

Lucky to get half that number today.

I remember when Paul Miller up at Montrose Colo had 18 stages in 2 days.

Before Covid, Comin' at Cha routinely had over 300 shooters.

Some shoots are limited in number by practicality. Other than that if you have a large shoot number wise it usually indicates an MD or club that knows what people want and are willing to go the extra mile to give them that. However, Shirt and I have been to several matches that vary in difficulty that we have been back to and will go again. Main thing for us is the people that put on the match and their attitude toward the shooters.

Same here! 

 

If they realize they're in the entertainment business and run their match accordingly the Burts will be there (if it isn't to far away).  If they're running matches to 'slow down' the fast shooters with stupid progressions or a steady diet of small and far then we'll go somewhere else.   We're fortunate that there aren't to many of the latter in the Southeast anymore.

And how well they are anchored down. I remember many EOT’s at Founders Ranch in New Mexico where the number of porta potties knocked over by the wind far out numbered those left standing.

The champ would be OWSA in Raton NM at the Whittington Center!

32 main stages over 4 days. And dirt cheap! $45.70 to play!

Whittington pretty much killed them when they demanded $50 per shooter.

Badlands Bar 3 Iron Cowboy or Ultimate Iron Man. 

 

Iron Cowboy is 12 main match stages a day for 3 days.

 

Ironman Cowboy Cost: $40 in addition to your main match entry fees

 

Shooter will start on stage one and shoot though 12 stages each day

No restarts – the shooter will finish the stage or receive a DNF

Shooter will dress in Cowboy attire including hat

Shooter can shoot any cowboy style on any stage but must shoot scenario as it is written

Ironman will shoot a total of 36 stages, 12 stages each day

AMMO Requirements

360 – Pistol

360 – Rifle

144 – Shotgun

 

Ultimate Iron Cowboy is 24 main match stages (8 stages a day) plus shooting all warm up and side matches. 

 

ULTIMATE IRONMAN COWBOY RULES

 

Ultimate Ironman Cowboy Cost: $65 in addition to your main match fee of $120

Shooter will adhere to same rules as Ironman and continue throughout the practice, side, and main match event. The shooter also shoots an additional category during the main match for a total of 8 stages each day of the main match.

Once the Ultimate Ironman Category is declared you may not change to Ironman.

If shooter does not finish at the time scheduled, the shooter will not be granted a reshoot and will be awarded a DNF.

The Ultimate shooter will complete 73 stages in 8 days.

AMMO Requirements

650 – Pistol

650 – Rifle

104 – Shotgun

120 – Wild Bunch Pistol

40 – Wild Bunch Rifle

40 – Wild Bunch Shotgun

125 – Pro Steel

Good old days & so was The Durango Kid's matches in Durango Colorado. plus, how about Railhead in Williams, Arizona.

Yes when Durango Kid had his matches we would get a free ride on the Durango Silverton train Dress in our outfits & Packin.Those were Good Times.
