I googled that number and saw that on 12/2 Dallas McBoomboom said that number tried to scam him.  Dallas called him an asshat.  It think that was too kind.

I'm pretty sure my phone number isn't too easy to connect to my alias (I've tried), but I'm saving that number in my contacts as a SASS Wire scammer just in case.

Heads up y'all.  Apparently someone is posing as me, using this phone number: 15023259223  A Wire pard, with my real phone number, texted me to say he received a request for payment from that number.  I don't text to ask for payment.  Communication with me with always start with PM's.  I only answer calls/texts after we've PM chatted.  Thanks.

SCAM  502-325-9223 texted me about a recent ad that I never inquired about looking for me to pay him. I don't know how he got my #.

Took me seconds to find it. Sending you a PM.

Can anyone vouch for Shirley Sure Shot?   I replied on the wtb skb thread that i had one for sale and this person PM me.  They just joined the wire on wednesday, have made one post and have no reputation points.  Also want me to ship the gun to Alaska and didn't want to get postal money orders to pay for it, want to send cashier's check or wire transfer.  Just being cautious.

The best thing to do is what we do. When the SASS office opens, call them and inquire if the alias and number go together and if it is a legitimate member from that location.  You can also email, phone, whatever, the TG or other contact person from that club.

Add Brown Leathers to the scammer list. His alias is not in the SASS database and the SASS member number is someone else's number.

Wow, and he's been in here for a while now. How easily they seem to infiltrate.

Yep...and I think he just started using the other account an hour or so ago. Too many coincidences not to be.

Yes, it does smell of scammer.

Not sure what the scam would be, but I would not respond to any PM from someone with no post history on the site.

Reporting it is not a bad idea. Even if the mod does not see a clear reason to take action now, it will build history for consideration in a later report by someone else.

I think he was looking for me to respond looking for a place to send money without outright asking for it would be my guess.

OOH, I would love for someone to try that on me. I have a VERY LARGE check sitting on my desk from someone that tried to scam me. (The old "My "wife" wrote the check for too much so just send me the difference." scam). It would be fun to send that check to another scammer!

Just got this message. This is the second one in a week. Not sure if Captain John Jarret is actually selling something or if anyone know him but the Mike will account was just created. The Mike will account had a SASS number in the 200 thousands.

I got one of those as well, exact same wording except it referenced a different item that I had committed on , but that email is gone now, so I'm guessing the mods busted out their Ban Hammer and took care of it :)

I took a look at new members (using search), a bunch of them show one post. But have no posts...

Do PMs count as posts?

This is the second one for the same item I posted about.  Both the Mods have deleted the messages.

Just FYI, when an “alleged” scammer gets the boot (permanently banned) , all of their posts go also.

That’s the way it’s set up.

Wanted to give an update, sent me a cashier's check, I took it to my bank and they verified it was legit.  Gave it a couple days to clear just in case.  No problems so my FFL shipped the gun to their FFL.  It arrived in Alaska safely and everyone is happy.

(502) 830-0430 is another scammer number.

I checked and that number is in a database of suspect numbers. Not proven malicious but suspect.

Perhaps it’s because your email is in your signature…

Maybe we should all set up a second email and put that in our signature...then the scammers can just use that instead of bothering to find our real email addresses!

Signatures don't show on my phone for whatever reason.

I used to have some "honeypots" to attract spam, useful for identifying and blocking sources of it. Counter measures have moved far beyond it and there are now services which provide scammers with lists of identified honeypots.

But I do like your thinking.

Lots of mobile mail readers do not download signatures. Same for apps for browsing forums. And same for browser-specfic CSS files for web sites, some content is not delivered based on meta tags.

In short, anything on a phone may look very different compared to on a computer.

True that!   I moderate a coin group that has more available features if I use my phone than if I use my PC.

But, on my phone, I cannot see the "tags", mini subheadings in the Classified Forum.   So, when people use a tag to post the price or detail that's not in the ad... it's invisible to me.

Bandit Biker.

If anyone has had dealings with Bandit Biker, send me a PM containing all contact/payment information.

A reminder to only use forms of payment that give you recourse if something goes wrong with the transaction.   If you don't know the person you are buying from, ASK!

If it's after business hours, we'll get back to you the next day.  If it's on a weekend, we won't be able to get back to you 'til Monday.   Yes, we know it's sometimes a wait, but it's better than losing your money.
