Don't have a lot of 380 experience, although I did reload a bunch for a guy to trade for some 1911 work. ..had a ppk but it was a jam-o-matic, sad cause I wanted to be James bond

No loading gate , 6 in barrel and no shell ejector....but ypu could definitely shorten the barrel and move the sight

Oughta be no recoil. ;)

I guess they figured everyone is now making 9mm conversions, why not add .380?

Hey Ornery,

The thing has been around for a while.  I don't know anyone who has one.  Not sure what a body would do with it.  it is interesting though.  Iffin you getz one, give us a "range report."

Okay, I got one and I do already reload .380, so I'm thinking on how much to take off that bbl.

Here's a mock-up of what I'm thinking about...

Got one of those myself.

That and my old Colt '38 Dick Special are my EDC pieces.  Big Daddy is a 1911 in .45.

I don't see myself needing anything more.

So, I thought it’d be better for me to bump this thread than start a new one.  The barrel of my 62 had “Cimarron Firearms LLC Fredericksburg Texas USA Mfgd by A Uberti Italy” along it’s top.

Local gunsmith looked and said, the most he could shorten mine would be to 4.5” since that’s the section of bbl with no rollmark.

Has anyone else gotten theirs chopped down yet?  I dunno that it’s worth going in on 1.5” shorter.

Let me see if I'm following that correctly.

He said he could not shorten it any further, because that would cut into the name roll marked on the top of it?

Now I'm wondering ifn I could load 380 with the holy black

You can load a .380 with sand or cinnamon or Jello.

Whether or not it will do anything is another question altogether

Exactly.  I know you can’t mess with serial number and make & model info.  I’ve never heard of  “importer” being included in what can’t be altered nor obscured.

Someone needs to suggest to Uberti to move the markings.

Maybe  “Cimarron Firearms LLC Fredericksburg Texas USA" on the top justified to the rear & "Mfgd by A Uberti Italy” on the bottom justified to the rear.

Chop it yourself and use a carriage bolt in a drill with lapping compound to crown it.

I did a search on the ATF website. Spent the better part of 40 minutes reading through that site. All of it seems to address “Importers” not purchasers. I couldn’t find one thing about a gun owner removing the import marks.

Here’s my search:

Ur the man, Pat Riot.  I owe you an hour worth of beers.

If I get “Cimarron Firearms LLC Fredericksburg Tx USA” engraved into the bottom of the grip frame, would that make it alright to remove their name and location from the bbl?

I would think, as long as you follow the ATF guidelines for size and depth. But, I would call the ATF and ask them about cutting off your barrel past the import mark. I highly doubt they’d get too excited over an 1860 revolver design.

The one thing I have found with Feds and their regulations if they don’t have a reg for it they will give you an authoritative opinion. If they can’t cite a reg ask to speak to their supervisor or manager. If you want to pizz ‘em off ask for their “superior”. It irks em.

For those of you that are about to have a cow over calling the ATF, save it. You ain’t the one calling so you’re safe from their electronic mind probes. ;)

They won't do that over the phone. See you need to write a letter to the technical branch so they can issue a findings letter. Only thing worth trying to hang your hat on.

That's what I was thinking. Having an email - which can disappear into the ether - or a phone call which can be easily denied --- neither one is a real good choice.

Write them a letter. An actual real snail mail letter on a piece of paper. And hopefully you will get an answer back. On a piece of paper. With the ATF letterhead. And an actual signature.

That way if they decide later on down the pike that you have broken the law, you can show them the letter that says that you were not breaking the law.

We remove the factory barrels from our match guns and replace them with custom octagonal barrels.

How would shortening a factory barrel be any different??
