My first thought was why not 38 Colt? Then 32 S&W in 6 shot cylinder.

My first thought was why not 38 Smith & Wesson.

But 38 Smith & Wesson is not made very much anymore. 32 Smith & Wesson, and 38 Colt are made even less. 380 is at least available.

Would truly suck to buy a new gun and not be able to find ammunition for it.

I have a 1858 Remington Navy. 36 caliber. And I would like to have a conversion cylinder for it. They make them, but only in 38 Special. 38 Smith & Wesson would be more authentic. Would be more correct as far as the cartridge. But, 38 Smith & Wesson is hard to come by. So they make it in 38 Special. Same reason Schofields were made in 45 Colt instead of 45 Smith & Wesson. Easier to find ammo.

Warden C I believe this firearm was made to satisfy the pocket pistol SASS rule re: 5 shot cylinder. Also, the 380acp cartridge’s rim dimension is less than 38colt and even 32s&w.

Alpo : Without seeing them side by side, I haven’t a guess.  However, can 6x 38s&w chambers be cut into a 38spl cylinder?

I would suppose so, since Smith & Wesson made their M&P revolver in both 38 special and 38 Smith & Wesson, and both of them held six rounds.

@WOLFY

Well, I called the Clarksburg WV ATF Office not 5 minutes ago and was told by an ATF Agent - if you want his name and number I will PM it to you.

He stated that as long as there is a serial number and it was not affected it’s perfectly fine to cut the barrel back behind the importer’s mark. Guns are tracked by serial number once sold.

I clarified with him that the revolver is a repro 1860 Colt cartridge conversion and he said that is totally fine to cut it back.

Post in bold so it stands out for obvious reasons.

My pea shooter Ruger Wrangler can easily hit a 4" circle at 15 yards.

My pee shooter does OK on a 12" target at 2 feet.

Good night, my friends.

The little cafe I patronize has a target, toxic female politician of old in the urinal.  Despite being old, I never miss!  I suspect the place stays pretty clean.

IF ya ain't got it in writing , it is just an opinion , to be denied , with NO legal authority , to save your butt

when they change their mind

Tell ya what, go find something to dispute what I learned by actually talking to an ATF Agent and I have his name and phone number. Find something in writing. Oh, and all conversations in phone calls with the ATF are recorded, from what I understand so I got that going for me too.

my gunsmith called their atf guy (here in their el paso office).  he confirmed, importer isn’t the manufacturer.  serial number and manufacturer are the only markings that shouldn’t be altered.

so, i’m pretty stoked he’ll get it done by next week.

thanks y’all

That’s great. You gotta post pictures when it’s done. :D

So, let me get this straight. Two ATF Agents on opposite sides of the country concur? I would think that there’s no entrapment planned because it’s not in writing, right? OR are these law enforcement officers that good or sophisticated that they knew all about this project via their tap into Echelon with permission of the NSA and there are plans to come after us. Me for spreading disinformation and Wolfy for getting this mod done and the gunsmith for doing the cutting.

We’ll be mocked in the ATF interrogation rooms for being naive and stupid for believing what we are told by federal law enforcement officers over the phone.
The media will pick up on this and our full 3 part names will be household words in short order.
The charges will include wire fraud for using the internet for all our actions. Our efforts to get an 1860 “Assault Weapon” modified! The media will be told to push the “1860 Assault Weapon” angle. The talking points will be: Assault Weapon, weapon of war, illegal modification of same, and conspiring nationwide on the internet.

We Are Doomed!

I "was" going to chime in earlier, basing my comment on being an FFL Gunplumber.  And then Sir Riot got in ahead of me.  However, there is absolutely NOTHING in the BATFE regulations to prohibit Chopping, Channeling, or Frenching the Headlights, so long as you UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, Remove or Alter the serial number(s).

Now I can’t decide if I want it sooo much shorter.  This 3.5” looks pretty balanced to me.

How does one unload those?

Looks to be a loading gate, so you just drop them in to load it. But it has no ejector rod.

Point it up at the sky and poke them out from the front of the cylinder one by one with a pencil? Pull the wedge, remove the barrel, remove the cylinder and then poke them out with the pencil?

Posted

since the rim is proud, just pull them free if they don’t drop out

there’s only a loading slot… no actual gate
