J-BAR #18287
Springfield is getting a light dusting of snow this morning, what my mother would call a "skiff". It has nothing to do with a small boat. Have any of you used or heard the term "skiff" for a tiny accumulation of snow? I'm wondering if my hillbilly ancestors invented it.
Gateway Kid SASS# 70038 Life
Of course! I remember being young and my mom telling my brother and I that a little skiff of snow wasn’t enough to not go to school! Then we dressed up to the hilt to trudge through 4-5 inches of snow to class! Sigh!!!!! All about perspective I guess. Regards Gateway Kid

Alpo
Curious if this qualifies as a dusting. I'm sure it's not enough for a skiff. The blizzard of January 2014.
watab kid
yes , my mother also used that term , dont recall my father ever mentioning anything less than measurable snow , he just went to work no matter what , only time ive ever used the term was when it looked like what alpo shows in his photos , we have gotten about 3 1/2" of water in december here , mostly rain but a few skiffs of snow mixed in , so far january has produced a couple skiffs - we shall see what tonight brings as its predicted .........we shall see ,

I asked her if that was all they had left. No, she just wanted buns (stupid). She buys for 8. Cooks for 4. Serves me twice as much as I need then is critical if I can't eat it all. The rest goes to neighbor's pigs.

Blizzard and shut down everything I’ve lived in places like that. When I was in high school, (St. Louis) the rule was public schools didn’t close unless there was 6” on the ground. Where I live now the threshold is much lower. They’ll even shut down under threat of bad weather.
Forty Rod SASS 3935
Got up early to get a very few groceries, some cash from the ATM, and back home....in the first skiff here since last winter. Looks like we'll be in for more, but not much. We're in the greatest part of Arizona: mild winters, moderate summers, and lovely springs and falls. On the other hand, the thumbs on the wrong side. No, seriously, I was raised in snow country where I've seen nearly a hundred inches in the front yard for several months more than once, I have lived in many other places with vast snow coverage. The only time in my life that I was ever snowed in was four years ago........right here. I had never owned, nor so much as driven, a front wheel drive car and didn't realize that if you got the front wheels off the ground you went nowhere. Not only that, but if you're really not paying attention, you get the car out just far enough to block the garage door and you can't get your super duper whiz bang pickup out of the garage, either. Four days trapped because of a void in my mind........but it will never happen again!
