They've got Coke in Russia?

 

I read, years back, that Coke wanted to expand to Eastern Europe. They got in touch with the Soviet Union about building bottling plants. The Soviets thought that would be a great idea.

 

So Coca-Cola told them that they would build the bottling plants, and they would ship the syrup over, and the Russians would add the carbonated water and put it in the bottles, and the Russians interrupted and said

 

"No no no no. You don't send us the syrup. You give us the recipe and we make it here."

 

And Coke explained WE DON'T DO THAT, and the Russians said YOU DO IF YOU WANT TO SELL HERE, and Coke said OKAY. BYE-BYE.

 

And that's why they had Pepsi in the Soviet Union but not Coca-Cola. Pepsi gave them the recipe.
