Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
It's only nature's way of making it possible for an older husband to agree with everything he thought he heard, and to be able to ignore the rest. Good luck, GJ

irish ike, SASS #43615
I once went to an Audiologist to get my hearing tested. I couldn't hear stuff. I get done and he tells me I don't need hearing aids yet. I say but I can't hear or understand the wife and kids. He says their vocal pitch/tone/range whatever is difficult to hear as you get older!!!!!! I ask him for a note to that effect....and he says he can't do that. Coward. I almost had an out. Cole Younger Requlator
Johnny, I just got my 1st set of hearing aids. I'm glad I did because now I can hear the things I could not. They have made hearing the TV much easier without turning volume WAY up. The radio in my car sounds a whole lot better. I can hear all the animals we feed in our yard. And I can always say to the Mrs., "sorry honey, my batteries just died." Cheers
Adirondack Jack, SASS #53440
I can''t hear soft voices, especially kids very well with my hearing. My wife I have no problem hearing, She works in a fairly loud environment, and will not wear ear plugs, so she's getting enough hearing loss, and is in the habit of talking over the machines at work, so she habitually yells. She gets mad when I have to ask others to speak up, and tell her she's yelling

Cat Brules
Seriously........... There is a condition wherein the area around the larynx and esophagus becomes calcified. I know of this because an elderly relative had this condition. Without going into detail the effects were difficult, If that's the problem, it is best to deal with this early on, rather than later on in life. I offer you the suggestion that you try to do an Internet search, using several search criteria and concentrate on WebMD and MayoClinic. See what queries return and save the best results in a sepcial "Favorites" folder. After you've researched (shouldn't take but a couple hours, tops), make an appoinment for your wife with an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) doctor. Good ones are difficult to find and often you must ask questions based on your earlier Internet research. I trust there isn't any real problems with your wife's throat. Widder, SASS #59054
Huh? Whatdyasay??? Philly, You better add the word 'Dear' to that phrase ifn you address that to Saur Kraut or else you'll end up with a hearing problem.....caused by a fryin pan up side your head ... I have terrible and declining hearing lose. Without my aids, I basically hear nothing. No alarms, Police sirens, TV, Radio, ..... NOTHING. Its a frequency problem or something like that, caused while I was in the Navy. I can hear the faint 'beep' of the timer, but only in my left ear. ..........Widder

Dang It Dan 13202
I had an Uncle that was deaf in one ear. When his wife spoke to him, he would always say he didn't hear her because he had his bad ear towards her. I was over at their house on Thanksgiving and saw this happen a couple of times. Then I noticed that the "bad" ear actually moved from one side to the other depending. He just smiled and winked at me.
Jackrabbit Joe #414
Went through four pair hearing aids, Costly items. I couldn't stand to hear the sounds they made too much noise like walking on gravel, newspaper rattling, and too much wind while driving. Geeeez! They were a pain in the butt. I use caption on TV now! Don't hear screaming kids any more either. Of course I hear what I want to hear. Yeeeeh, Haaaa, pilgrims.................. Anyway God Bless all you hard of hearing folks: It's pioneers like us paving the way for the generations behind us. See you all on the Range:. I recently got fitted for hearing aids, and I love them. They're programmable and can augment the range of frequency that gives you trouble. One of the settings tunes out background noise for crowded rooms, another pushes it up for the TV (really makes the other noises loud). One turns down the left and turns up the right so I can hear my wife while driving, These things are getting pretty smart. Not perfect, but a ton better than before I got 'em.
