I have never used Trail Boss, don't have any in my stash - so why is it so highly rated for CAS? NOT trying to start a war, seriously asking. I use AA#2 and ZIP right now for handgun loads.

What is Trail Boss useful for?

.32 S&W

.32 S&W Long
.32-20
7.65 Nagant
.38 Short Colt
.38 S&W

.38 Long Colt.
.38 Special
.357 Magnum
.44 Special
.44-40

.44 Magnum
.45 ACP

.45 S&W
.45 Colt

56-60 Spencer

.30-30

.30-40
7mm Mauser

8mm Mauser

.30-'06  (Bolt Actions.  Have not tried it in the Garand)

.45-60

.45-70 (Trapdoor safe)

I have personally used it in all of these calibers, and I am sure it can be used in many more.  It is a very useful caliber.   And, it is basically impossible to overcharge with it.  A double charge of a minimum charge will overflow the case.   And, given it's bright color, it is very easy to see that there is power int he case.

Someone mentioned the Kaboom Club.

THIS is impossible with Trail Boss...

Neither of my friends was hurt using these, thank the Lord.   But it more or less did ruin our outing at a big shoot.   As near as I can guess, a double charge of Win321 is to blame.   That, and my own stupidity.

I want Trail Boss Back for these two reasons alone.

I don't know about that.  When I used to live in Ohio, my backyard was full of clay in the soil.  Never thought of using it to load ammo though.  I was afraid it'll all be squib loads.😝🤣

Well hell I have been cleaning out some cabinets trying to downsize and get rid of stuff I have not used in years.  Look what I found way in the back.  (Also found four one pound containers of Red Dot.)  The Clays are unopened.  The Trail Boss is filled to the brim which means I dumped a partial bottle into this one so it is over the normal 9 ounces.

I don't understand the issue of squibs and Clays powder.

I've used it for 30 some years in 12 gauge, 45 ACP, 45 Colt, 44-40, .357, .38 spl. & 44 magnum and have never had a squib, ever. I live in northern Indiana and have shot in temperatures hovering around 0 degrees fahrenheit.

CAUTION: It does NOT taste like donuts. Trust me.

CAUTION #2: Don't smoke after this experiment.

Waiting, Anticipating, Hoping for Trail Boss to make it to Canada.

(You'd think that since it's made in a fellow Commonwealth Country, the Aussies would make sure WE got some pretty quickly. SIGH!)

I loved Trail Boss for my .45-70 loads and .45 Colt.

I found it a great powder to use when I got back into reloading after several decades away and using factory fodder. Little or no danger of an overcharge.

Anyone ever take that as a SASS alias?

Do a member search here on "Trail" and a number of aliases come up with an additional name, like Trail Boss XXXX.

edit: I think "Trailboss" by itself wouldn't be too good of an alias because nobody would believe you when tell them you are going to show up. :D

The most recent GUNS magazine has an entire article about the virtues of Trail Boss.

On the one hand that's great!

On the other, does the article point out it hasn't been available since about 2020?

Are they actually making it again or did they find an old warehouse stash that they're dispensing of? ;)

I stocked up on all the good stuff years ago. We saw this before. In fact I posted many times over the years that buying  as needed was a bad idea, and to load up.

 Best Wishes

I hope it shows back up in the States. I'm down to my last bottle of trail boss (Not jug, bottle). Some of the prices people want for a bottle or even a jug of trail boss is just mind blowing.

I just bought a bottle of TB today. I missed out last month at the same LGS who only got 6 bottles. Last night they got 4 bottles and I managed to get one of them. Not cheap though.

Price wise, I guess they discovered what we were willing to pay during Covid and now those are the new rates we can expect for powder, primers,  loaded ammo etc.

Yep, picked mine up today to.

Same bottle design, I looked for a date but none on the bottle.

Its $340 AUD in Sydney.

So please correct my math for me. Bottle weighs 3.3 pounds at $340 Aud, so $100 Aud per pound, So is the Aussie dollar more or less than the US dollar? That would make it over $100 US per pound right?
TIA
