Buckshot Bear
My wife lost the brass bead off the front of her Uberti '73 I've got the sight off and the drill hole for the part of the brass that inserts is only 1.5mm. Going to try and turn one on my lathe and insert it with some retaining compound. Any hints from anyone who's done this before?
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Epoxy on a primer cup (no compound or anvil). Small primer is usually large enough. If you use a brass cup, it polishes nicely to almost gold. A nickel plated cup - polishes to nickel. Doh. Cheap and fast. Otherwise, a proper shank size and globe size of a shotgun bead will work well. good luck, GJ 3

Tex Jones, SASS 2263
If you can get drill bits or brass stock you can cut off piece and epoxy it in. I see that some drill sets have bits as narrow as 1mm.

Rip Snorter
Buy a small real gold bead pierced ear earring. Cheap, never tarnish, you can drill or just glue. They generally come in pairs so you have a spare. Edited March 11 by Rip Snorter 4 3

Oh and let us know how that works out 1
Jack Spade
38 minutes ago, Warden Callaway said: Sure Hit sights should slip right on. http://www.surehitsights.com/page-4.html I had this same thing happen, sure hits will not slip on this style of sight. I had to change to I think it was called the marbles style front sight then slip the sure hit over it. The gold stud ear ring idea should work or you might cut a slot in a .22 short case lengthwise and put some epoxy on to hold it. Buckshot Bear
Thanks pards one and all for the suggestions, but the boss was having none of that "Please can I have exactly what I had before" ....... Turned down the insert shank to a thou oversize - Test fitting for a friction fit - Parted off - Had to hand file off the nub that I always get from parting off, the piece being so tiny was a problem to hold so I used some masking tape and to get it in place and then sandwiched between some wood offcuts and after filing gave it a polish - Looking good - Used some Loctite 638 Retaining Compound, along with the friction fit I hope that it stays in place. At least if it doesn't I know I can make another one now......and back on the barrel -

Oak Ridge Regulator
Gotta love having a small lathe on hand, can’t remember how many little things I have made over the years that couldn’t be easily found local. Nice work on the sight insert. Let’s see someone do that on their cell phone !
