Inflation in action

Recommended Posts

One of the things big industry does to try and hide price increases is to make the product smaller or put less in the box in an effort to not raise prices.  The buggers have struck at the very heart of western civiliation.   During the great pandemic the TP makers made the rolls of TP 3/4" narrower.  So for several months we were paying the same for less.  Now with rampant inflation we are paying more for less.  In another few months as prices increase and TP decreases we will become a third world nation.

This crap has been going on for years. I am pretty sure breakfast cereal companies like Nabisco and Kellogg’s started this back in the early 2000’s. I first noticed it with Triscuit crackers. The $3.29 - 16 Oz box became 13.5, then 12.5. I stopped buying them. Now I see the same box is now 8 ozs at the same price, or thereabouts.
Next came Campbell’s soups. 16 Oz became 15, then 14.5 now 14 ozs.

Now 16 Oz lunch meat packages are 12 Oz.

8 Oz cans of (whatever) are 6 Oz.

My son-in-law’s Mom made some dish for a get together we were having and I heard her complaining about not making enough but following her recipe and it didn’t taste the same.  I cannot remember what she had made, but I told her that companies are down sizing packages without changing prices and have been doing it for quite a while. She went into the house and came out with a couple of boxes and a couple cans and announced “He’s right. Look at this?”
All these folks at this party pretty much discounted what I said until she showed them the 16 Oz containers that no longer held 16 ozs.

This has been going on for years. Just like the Socialist take over of our country.

The candy companies are the worst!!  They started by offering a bigger candy bar at a “SLIGHTLY” higher price, keeping the original size bar for sale too. Then they slowly raise the price of both for a year or two while they shrink the both bars until the bigger bar is the size of the original. Then they discontinue the smaller bar and start over!!

I recently sent Tillamook an email and literally told them to shove all their products right up their ***es.
They were one of the only companies that still sold an honest 1/2 gallon of ice cream, then one day it became 1.75 quarts. Then recently, a few months ago, they reduced it to 1.5 quarts. This really ticked me off so I looked them up online and found this little write up they did to justify reducing their container sizes. It read like horse**** warmed over. They were “saving the environment”. “Watching out for the health of their customers”. Blah blah blah…

Totally written by some corporate brain dead brainwashed limp-wristed bed-wetter.

I wrote them a very colorful email on their message system. I haven’t heard back. I will go to hell before buying another product of theirs.

Around here, I always follow up a revelation like that with, "Say it with me, 'The Fat Guy is always right'".

Yep everything going up. Last week I bought a bottle of Baileys Irish Creme for $29.00, pre pandemic it was $19.00 for exactly the same bottle.

If they can keep making it, without people getting sick...Blue Bell ice cream still comes in full 1/2 gallon cartons.  :FlagAm:

They also sell a one pint version, and single serve 3 ounce version.

The three newest flavors are: Coconut Cream Pie; Chocolate Sheet Cake; and Milk & Cookies.  :P yum-yum!!!!

Carpe diem!!!  or...carpe ice-cream-em !!!

I ain't connected with Blue Bell...just sayin' some items, if they were reduced in volume, would/could be a shootin' affair. This would do it. ;) around here, anyway.

As much as I hate government regulations there should be a weights and measures type mandate to keep this crap from happening / continuing.

Know what? Never mind. They would just muck it all up.

While I agree with you in principle, all THEY would do is say that the package has to reflect the proper measure of weight/volume.

On the other hand, I think that there should be a Federal Mandate that every truck stop in the country should have a Waffle House in it.

I'm seeing 16 oz. cubes of butter around here, not sure how much the quarters weigh. Just checked the quarter's package in our fridge and it does say 16 oz. on it. Neither packages are so called "brand names" as they come from lower price super markets.

Some years back Jack Daniel’s changed from 90 proof to 80. Same price though. They had the gall to claim that market research showed to folks wanted their whiskey to be watered down. That’s why God invented ice cubes!  Snarl!
