Jonny Gringo, SASS #107980
Howdy, folks! I've got a question for y'all. I've only been shooting CAS for six months, and I'm wanting to get into B-Western. My main reason is that I already have the clothes for it; they're my everyday wear. What's the best rifle for B-Western that's NOT a Marlin? Fastest, most reliable, longest lasting? I'm a lefty, and every Marlin I've shot throws the hot brass right onto my right arm, which gets old fast. I was considering a Rossi M92, IF I can find one. Price is also a deciding factor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Tyrel Cody
Welcome to the best game there is! You really only have one choice then and that is a Winchester 92'; whether it's made by Rossi, Winchester, Browning, or maybe Chiappa is your choice. Rossi is the most affordable and can be made to go pretty fast. There is also the 1883 Burgess and the Colt Lightning rifle, but if you want to go fast without issue, stick with the 92'; not many can make the Lightning run reliably and the Burgess is hard to find and not real fast. I'll add that @Widder, SASS #59054 or one of the other Marlin Guru's might know how to make the 94' eject differently and keep those rounds off your arm. Slow Mo Dern
Howdy! Welcome to Cowboy Action! You might want to look into Steve's Gunz. If I was to buy a new, B-Western, CAS-ready Winchester '92; I would buy it from Steve's Gunz. I believe he is a qualified '92 specialist. You want a good, reliable, hassle-free rifle. You can't have fun if the guns don't work right. Spend the extra money and get a good gun. All the best, Mo

Pedersolli makes a copy of the Colt Lightning that run relatively trouble free as long as you keep them clean. I know a family with 3 of them in 38/357 that rarely have problems. I have a 44-40 that runs like a top that I haven't done anything to but keep it clean. Grey Beard
LostVaquero
Probably a 92 is your best bet.

Jonny Gringo, SASS #107980
I'm currently running open Duelist class, with a pair of Uberti Cattleman's, a Miroku 1873, and a Stoeger Coach 20 gauge. I'm having a B-Western holster rig made at the moment. Not many cowpokes in either of my clubs shoot in B-Western, so I'm wanting to run in it to be different. 14 minutes ago, Ace_of_Hearts said: Remember that, just because your dress may be B-Western type, you are not restricted from shooting all the age based Categories. Captain Clark
yep, the obvious choice is a M92. I pretty much shoot my Marlin these days in B Western, so.... Ive got a ready to go { Rossi} M92 in 45 Colt that was done by Pioneer that would work for you. PM if you need info.
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
Specifically for B Western, I think the Winchester 92 is the only logical choice. Bonus points, IMO, for taking off the forestock to make a "Hollywood Henry."

For the most part, a Marlin 1894 will probably tend to eject empty brass forward. And being a left hander, wearing a long sleeve shirt, the angle of the empty brass would probably fly over the forearm area, of which the shooter shouldn't be weary. I would think shooting a Marlin 'left handed' would be less of a distraction than the brass of a 73 flying upwards in the face and hat of a shooter. ..........Widder
Wyatt Hurts SASS#72737
As a B Western shooter who shoots left handed even though I am not a natural left hander (it's a long story) I have never been distracted by brass ejecting and I am a Marlin shooter

You want your rifle running 100%. I have seen more than one feller's day ruined by a '92 that could not finish a stage due to mechanical problems. Oh, and welcome to the game! I LOVE your alias! You're even in my neck of the woods plains! The PCC is a fantastic place to play cowboy with a bunch of wonderful cowpeoples.
Colorado Coffinmaker
As noted by those ahead of me, there are only a couple of choices. Lightning ... Not a good plan. Most don't run and can't really be made to run. The exception is usually a pedersoli. Burgess ... Not a good plan. Most will not run fast nor well and are some clunky. Not much you can do with em. THE '92 ... Out of the box, so - so or ho hum. When well tuned a '92 can be amazing fast and amazing reliable. We're me, I'd talk to Nate Kiowa Jones. Comes to the '92, he be a magician. LostVaquero
I shoot lef t handed with a Marlin. No problem and need a reload just toss in the port.
Major BS Walker Regulator
Just shoot the Marlin faster and the empty cases don't stick around long enough to cause any harm.
Grizzly Dave
I shot a marlin for years, and am left handed, only problem I ever had with brass is that one would find it's way into the gap in my sleeve at the buttoned cuff. But everyone is different. If you've tried a Marlin and it didn't work for you for whatever reason, a 92 would be the route to go, but I reckon I'd want to try one first, ya never know, it might not be better than the marlin for the reasons the marlin didn't work for you. Joe LaFives #5481
1)You can shoot any class except Classic Cowboy that you are qualified for gender and age wise, dressed as b-western. Second if money is not an issue and you still want to shoot B-Western, Get Lassiter to set up a Lightning for you. If you decide NOT to shoot B-Western - Go directly to Uberti 73's.
