Charlie MacNeil, SASS #48580 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 That range bag is a sweet gift! My 73 only travels in the WR rifle case I got in 2014, so now my pistolas will have a matching travel case. How cool is that? Big thanks to all the fine folks who make Winter Range tick!
Blackey Cole Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 If a shooter is signed up but fails to show will they mail him his shooters packet and gift?
Billy Boots, # 20282 LTG-Regulator Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 If a shooter is signed up but fails to show will they mail him his shooters packet and gift? BC, To answer your question and for reference....I was signed up last year and business obligation kept me home so was not able to make match (first to miss since 2000), I did not receive whatever the shooter's gift was. I did not expect such, nor being late in cancellation, did I expect refund. Entry is once again in and my plan is to make the Silver Anniversary in 2016, hope you can also. BB (don't forget the heater)
Double Tap Taylor Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Just sent in my App, can't wait! I hope to make a lot of new friends, see some old ones.
Swiss Kid, SASS #54030 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 The “Brighton Belle” is in the dry dock for a much needed overhaul. Fix the cracks in the boiler, replace the bearings of the wheel, stuff the leeks in the hull and upgrade the state rooms. BTW, I’m talking about the river boat. Swiss

Lou Graham, # 26112 Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I sent my In Apirl or so I Sunshine Kay sent me a Email said I was in but no number! Thing are in the works. GK (and anybody else that may have missed the notification) Sunshine Kay had a computer failure of Biblical Proportions and is re-building everything. Never fear! We'll get our numbers soon. As long as we know we're in, it's all good. Kay took time from doing that to call and/or email to get the word out she is working on getting back to normal so we wouldn't worry or wonder what was going on.
BLACKFOOT SASS #11947 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Just mailed in my application and remembered that I didn't make a "posse with requests". Looks like I will be shooting with some new friends. Blackfoot
Preacher Ben Pray'n Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Nanny and Preacher just sent in our application. Coming all the way from RI.
Grizzly Dave Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Just mailed in my application and remembered that I didn't make a "posse with requests". Looks like I will be shooting with some new friends. Blackfoot I did that last year, there was only a couple folks on the posse I'd ever even met before, but had never shot with any of them. Good to meet new folks.
Double Tap Taylor Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Is there going to be a Night shoot. I would be great.
Blackey Cole Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Well I asked the doc this morning should I cancel my plans for February and he said barring any complications I should be able to walk by then. He said about one more week of zero weight bearing and the about three months from surgery date I should be 100% weight bearing and that will put it at 15 January and hopefully it will not take over a month to be able to walk short distances without assistance i.e. Crutches. I have a utv for long rang movement then plan on buying a rugged gun cart to get the gear from the access road to the stage and a stool to do my posse job and to rest while not on the line. So I'm looking forward to getting set free in January and reloading my ammo for Rwanda fire and ice.packing up the trailer and going thru the gear I've bought while under medical supervision.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 Is there going to be a Night shoot. I would be great. Nope, not enough time in the schedule. If all goes well there will be a fireworks display instead of the night shoot.
Double Tap Taylor Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Larsen thank you. It will be fun filled week.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 OK, time for some updates. I have been out of action since October 7. One of the things causing a problem is that my vision is blurred and it is very hard to read the computer screen and I can't see what I have typed or proofread very well. So if there are misspelled words or things don't make sense let me know and I'll try to correct them. I'll make several short entries so I can see/proofread them easier. First off is registration. It is running 25% AHEAD of last year. The match is typically full by mid-December. We are targeting to have 792 people actually shoot the match. To compensate for no-shows registration will run into the low 800s. At a certain point we will start putting people into a waiting list. There is still plenty of room but registations are coming in every day so if you haven't registered register soon! This is the Silver Jubilee so it is going to be a special event!!!
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 The main camping areas at Ben Avery are pretty much full. For information on campsites contact the main Ben Avery office. The Rough Riders camp directly across the street from the main range. We have sub-divided the area into some additional camping spots and are making them available to shooters. If you don't mind dry camping you can call Jus D and make a registration (these are handled by Winter Range). His email is wisewaypools@gmail.com For those that would like to rent an RV and stay on-site we have arranged for a local RV company to take care of the shooters. Their information is found here. http://www.winterrange.com/page53.html
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 We have located all but one of the original Shooter's Hand Books for all the past Winter Ranges. We are still working on the 2016 Shooter's Handbooks and have a few ideas. One is that we might incorporate some shooter recollections of past Winter Ranges. So, if you have a favorite memory or story about prior Winter Ranges send me a note (or post here) and it might get incorporated into this year's shooter handbook.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 Since I could not go to the Western Divisional or Border Town I am WAY behind on gathering volunteers. It takes precisely 100 people to man all the side matches on Wednesday of the match. If we have more volunteers it makes the work easier. If we have less it means closing an event as we will not ask anyone to do a double shift. There are three shifts: 8 - 11 am, 11-1:30 pm and 1:30 - 4 pm. If you would like to help please let me know what shift you would like. If you have an event preference list that and note any people that you want to partner with. Make sure that the time you volunteer for does not conflict with your warm-up match. I try to double check the warm-up matches but right now I can't read fine print very well. PLEASE send me a PM if you would like to volunteer or check the volunteer box on the application form.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 The work goes on building new props and refurbishing old props. Here are a few shots from last Saturday (November 7). Most of the bays were full so work on repainting and revarnishing had to be delayed again. We will reserve the bays in the middle of the weeks and get some volunteers out there when there aren't as many shooters. The fort has been power washed and is waiting for its new coat of varnish. Last time out we were driven out by bees. Ben Avery has a bee specialist on-site. Several barrels and props were full of hives and had to be cleaned out. Everyone breaks down into groups to work on projects. One group is working on a new front for the main tent. At least two other groups were working on dozens of sections of new boardwalk. One of the new props will be a frontier town. One of the features of every frontier town is a school house.
twelve mile REB Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Larson to you and everyone that makes Winter Range special THANK YOU from the bottom of my pea picken heart. 12
