They might have well added to the sign "Please leave your side arms in you vehicle"!

Was in a gun shop today with that sign. The shop right down the road was robbed by several misunderstood youth wearing hoodies. Walk in with your hood up and he's drawing his gun.

Walked into my bank day before yesterday early in the morning. I've worn my sidearm in there for years and no one has ever said anything. There was a very young new teller, very "metrosexual" in appearance, and he looked like he was soiling his undies. All of the ladies there called out their "hello"s and I walked into the manager lady's office to sign some papers. When I reappeared the young man was being instructed as to how things are in a country bank. "You'll get used to it," I heard one of the young ladies say, "There's a lot of folks who carry out here."

I laughed all the way to the truck!!

At the gun shop where my wife worked and I helped out a guy came in - leather jacket, gloves, full face motorcycle helmet. Got about 10 ft. into the shop, stopped, took off his right glove, unzipped his jacket part way and reached in with his right hand,

Everyone has moved around some and there were hands on guns.

He pulled out his glasses, took off his helmet and sun glasses, put on his regular glasses.

The man got a talking to.

Re the sign. I don't wear hoodies. If I have a hat on, it comes off when I walk through the door. Don't wear 'em inside,

I think the signs will work just about as well as the NO GUNS signs! However the girl at my bank said if someone comes in and does not remove the hoodie, sunglasses etc. they contact police asap!

My bank has a sign in the front door. It says please remove your sunglasses, hats and hood as a part of our security program. There are pictures of those items on a person with a red line through them. I expect most bank robbers will comply.

That's because they're using FACIAL RECOGNITION. They can identify people who walk in the door withi seconds, and as databases grow, they'll also know what you're likely there for, as a customer (so they can refer to you to the person or act like they remember you or offer you business ideas that you're, presumably, more likely to be interested in.

It's about making money.

And if you happen to rob the place, it'll also allow the police to meet you at home when you return. :)

Image Recognition is becoming commonplace. Any store that wants to invest in it, can. I've seen it on news items for years, and, if you happened to see this one, "Minority Report" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minority_Report_%28film%29 starring Tom Cruise, has integral to the plot the same idea of FACIAL RECOGNITION in it.

That movie came out in 2002. :)

When it actually began to be used in real life is probably not well known, and I don't know either. But I think I began to see new items about it in the '90s, mostly, initlally relate to security in casinos in Vegas. :)

Me? I don't care for it any more than I like pushy advertising on the internet.

The government, I'm not worried about. The FBI has had a file on me since I was 17 years old, because of my time in the Navy and Naval Intelligence. Old News to them, whatever I am about.

However, I don't really like it when COMPANIES develop databses on people because they appear to be unlimited in what they can do with it (because they get hyou to "Agree"at the bottom of unintelligible disclosures or assume your agreement if they've posted such a sign as the OP noted—AND then they can profile, sell data to whomeer, etc. Which I don't care for because I consider myself pretty private.

I don't hide from the Gov; but I prefer businesses not to datamine me. :)

Sooooo............................ If I walked into that bank the OP mentioned, wearing sunglasses and hat. I'd keep wearing them anyway. I mean, they'll know who I am in a few seconds, anhyway, when I deposit money into my account, so why should I give them free videos of my face or worry if they don't get it? Hell, if they want to recognize me, I SHOULD wear my sunglasses, as I usually do have them on. :P

And if they asked me to leave because I refuse to remove them, then I would. I'd bank somewhere else.

That's the only thing they'll listen to.

At my bank, I can't even remember when the last tme was I went in there. I use ATMs. :)

I can't get over how many gentlemen don't remove their hats indoors.

Gentlemen do remove their hats. :)

It's the uneducated Yankees that don't. :(

My bank lowered and added new cameras strictly to give us the ability to get pictures of suspicious characters faces underneath their cap. Bills and hoodies. We don't get many hoodies as it is usually too hot in Louisiana but you always have to be ready.
