I'm also a fan of the Beechcraft B-17-D Stagger Wing and the Grumman Goose.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Cool as in "Deadly as Hell with wings", I nominate the Warthog. I just looks evil.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 And the OV-10 Bronco looks cool, too. We both got our "uniforms" in 1965. Bronco got wings and I got an Ordnance bomb and a gold bar. Wheee!
Stump Water Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Interesting chart. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_aircraft_production

I don't know. I was in Production Engineering when I left Manufacturing and the design work was done except for Engineering fixes needed by Manufacturing.

Good little airplane. Four M60 machine guns in the sponsons, and they could carry rockets, flares, and gun pods. The A model even had provisions to carry two AIM-9 Sidewinder Missiles.

A remarkable little plane designed to touch down in a crab angle because it had no rudder pedals. The theory is it was safer because the pilot couldn’t cross control the rudders & ailerons when landing in a crosswind. It worked, but later versions were retrofitted with pedals because pilots found landing without them too unnerving.
Eyesa Horg Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 If I could own a plane, I'd be a vintage one, preferably a Bi Plane.

My great grandfather learned to fly in one at the Wright Brothers flying school and then brought one back to St Louis. Orville Wright signed his pilots license. What a contraption! my idea of a biplane I’d like to own:

They wanted $5'500 for it! Wife was not having it!!

Plus, there is a condition called AIDS - aviation induced divorce syndrome. 😁

Side story: As a kid, my next door neighbour, June., an English War Bride had a cousin killed on HMS HOOD when the Bismarck sank her.

Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 I’ve always been a fan of this plane - Fiesler Storch. Can take off and land from just about anywhere. 200’ to take off and clear a 50’ obstacle, land in 60’.

Injun Ryder, SASS #36201L Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 I've always liked Burt Rutan's EZ.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 My personal Fave's are the YB-35 and YB-49. Haden't been for Stewart Simington and his dirty politics, we would have been flying flying wings decades ago. Next Bestest is the Beechcraft Stager Wing. Gorgeous they are.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 The Italian Caproni Ca.60 Noviplano.
