can't decide which is more annoying

I was just reading a story where four men BRAKE into the house.

And somebody posted a picture here of an airliner cockpit, and one handle was marked THE BREAK.

The you're/your thing, and to/too/two, there/their/they're ---- I see these so often I guess, that they don't even register. I know they used the wrong word, but I don't really care.

But break/brake -- that one just bothers me.

Could be Otto too in some cases. I'm often appalled when I read some of my posts a while after posting. I swear Otto changed them after I proof read them.;)

Should of? Would of? Could of? Might of??

OF WHAT???

The word that is correct is HAVE!

If you’re trying to shorten it to the contraction, saying it or writing it, it becomes WOULD’VE  or SHOULD’VE  or COULD’VE  or MIGHT’VE!!

You don’t say or write WE OF or YOU OF or THEY OF!!

The word is HAVE  and the contraction is ‘VE  following the word you’re using!!

All the nine key abbreviations used ATT. LOL. Son's always texting ATM.  ATM?  Took me a good while to realize it was "at this moment", not a banking machine.

When ATM (banking) started up, I was heavily involved in networks. Asynchronous Transfer Mode.

A new(ish) acronym on FB is AITAH. AH is one word and gets two letters.

I can except the use of mis-used words to insure it’s affect on how are language is used and take it as a complement that they’re continued appearance in sentences meets with you’re approval.

Spell check. We all learned to spell in grammar school.

In our local paper, the sports writer was writing about a golf tournament at oiur local "golf coarse". It was spelled right :(

I had a poor one room grade school education.  I got to district high school I was swamped.  I bearly made grades good enough to pass.  I went to trade school for two years and got an associate degree in design drafting.  I did well in all technical classes and drafting but fell down in technical writing.  By graduation,  I'd gotten up to B honor roll. Ironic,  my first job involved a lot of writing of lengthy technical reports.  My ace in the hole was that Mary would proof read my work. It was painful for her but her spelling and grammar was perfect.  She had a low tolerance for my poor performance.  I continued my college education at night classes.  I have enough credit hours for a BS degree but not all in the right subjects.  Going for a degree in computer science.  The company I worked for quit paying for continued education so I stopped going.  But my job still evolved into a lot of repot writing.  A number of time my idiot boss would come out and say he had a report to write on our system and since I was more familiar with it, I should write something and he'd wordsmith it and turn it in.

I probably make a lot of errors but blame it on otto correct. I see a lot of poor writing here and in other social media.  But most people don't have the experience at writing since school.  Then there is the constant PC skills to master.

I know my grammar sure sucks these days compared to years ago. Now I figure it is what it is. It's better than the newspaper and the evening news that pay editors.

I agree with the break/brake thing.  I also have several friends that want to meat me somewhere, so meet/meat is another one that really bothers me.

im sure many of us have misspelled along the way - but in my past the nuns really drilled these spellings in deep and their meanings as well as correct use , i do have to add that current AI can have adverse affects on what is intended when using the voice or misspelling when typing fast these days , also spell check has a really limited vocabulary

Right tasty!  Marinate in olive oil,  lemon,  garlic,  rosemary,  onion, and red wine,  then grilled.

It's also,as @Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 pointed out,  a good alternative to "capon" for describing certain denizens of Sacramento and DC.

On a related word,  look up the  verb "tup."   Gives a whole new meaning to Tupperware.

Only a very few!!  You might see a few in print in mainstream publications and a few more in some of the more avant garde literature, but some are not for anything higher level than a biker bar restroom! :o <_<

Oh gimme a brake. Who cares if others hear or any wear spell correctly? One could loose they’re mind worrying about this stuff. If it isn’t embedded in they’re mind by now their prolly not going to learn it. Some folks bearly know how to speech, let alone spell.

And one of the Xanth books, the young man is in school and is writing an essay. He does not have great faith in his spelling ability.

Fortunately a spelling bee comes flying in the window, and he caught it and required it to make sure that all of his words were spelled correctly.

And they were. They were just all the wrong words.

Bear/bare, to/two, they're/there, etc.

It was an interesting essay.
