Powder recommendation for .38 & .357 - for 1873 rifle?

Which powders are recommended that can be used w/ .38 (125gr) & .357 (158gr)? Planning to use these for an Uberti 1873 rifle. I've looked for Trail Boss and I can't seem to find any in stock. Thank you!

3 grains of most any fast burning powder will get you there. Bullseye, RedDot, Clays, Clay Dot, Promo, Tightgroup, Acc # 5, etc.

Check a powder burn rate chart for others. I use 3 grains of Bullseye, cause I picked up an 8 pound tub a few years back. It’s almost out, so may need to change.

Bullseye is hard to beat. 3.0 will do the job. You can load 18,666 rounds with an 8lb jug.

Here is an older thread answering your question.  You are fortunate that many suitable powders are currently available.  I've loaded with many of the powders mentioned.  They all performed adequately.  Last weekend I shot revolver rounds loaded with W231 and rifle rounds loaded with Unique.  My wife shot revolver rounds loaded with V320 and rifle rounds loaded with American Select.  I will load more with Sport Pistol as my supplies are consumed.

Tried new loads with American Select and HP-38 (W231) in a .357 case w/148gr lrn bullet. Decided on 3.4gr of HP-38, very clean burning. HP-38 and W231 are both readily available.

I use Cleanshot and you can get it from Scarlett Darling. I use the same load for revolvers and rifle and have for over 5 years. 3.5 grains of Cleanshot and a 125 grn lead bullet from Cimarron bullets with an OAL of 1.45. Works great.

I got 400 pounds of Clean Shot on Monday from Shooters World. It’s available from me only at matches… I don’t ship hazmat. It should be hitting their online retailers soon! It’s about the same price from me and online even with hazmat. Powder Valley, Midway, Graf & Sons, Midsouth Shooters Supply. BEWARE of online scammers. Some have set up and show Shooters World in stock etc. if it’s not KNOWN to you or one of the above, don’t buy!

Hugs!

I've been using Win 244.  It's readily available, good data available for it.  Burn rate is about like Win 231, but use 244 data.  I've had good luck with it, consistent and clean burning.

I look online for suitable powders for what I reload and have tended towards the lower priced ones of late.
