How would the Marines handle this?

Took this kid shooting one day, many years back. I noticed that extremely weird way he was holding the rifle.

Right-handed kid with a left master eye.

I asked his mother a year or so ago what he was doing now - knowing that he would probably be about 20.

She said he joined the Marines.

EVERY MARINE A RIFLEMAN

I'm sure he's not the first guy in boot camp that's got the wrong master eye. How would they handle that?

Did not seem to cause him a problem with pistols.

That's him in the background, with that 1911 in full recoil.

The young lady in front needs some help on her grip, but just tickled me to pieces to see kids shooting.

The same feeling when I see kids with real books (and you can't believe the subject matter they choose) at the public library.

Or the fourteen year old boy who live down the street who rang my door bell one day, introduced himself and his "crew".  Then he told me that the four of them were earning money to go to The Grand Canyon for a week and noticed the my yard needed "some attention.  Two hours later they finished moving nearly a half yard of rock from the driveway into my flower garden, cleaned up after them selves, and suggested I have them do some more work when they got back.  We had agreed on $60.00 for the job.  I gave thEm $80.00 BECAUSE THEY EARNED IT!

They got home and I had them (Three of them.  One couldn't cut it) do another small job, and the boy and his sister came back and asked if I had a weed whacker.  I loaned them mine until hey can get one of their own and the spent three hours Saturday cutting weeds in my back yard.  Wouldn't take the $60.00 I offered because they used my  whacker.  We settled on 30.00...and they'll be back.

Two 13 year old twin sisters earn money by walking some horses for a family  through the block.  Three horses, two little girls,  a huge very gentle but attentive dog, about three miles a week on residential streets.

I think we have a lot of unrecognized youngsters who may someday inherit the reins and save this tired old abused planet.

And my hat is off the parents and grandparents and others who teach them.

It seems like the bad one are the only ones that attract attention.  There are lots of good kids out there that will continue after we are gone.  There were troubled kids when I was growing up.  Most of them didn't turn out too well either.

The same day as with the revolver.

And if you like her, you really should like her little sister.

My wife is right handed and left-eye dominant.
It causes her considerable consternation.
However, she is still an ace at shooting the eyes out of old photos of her ex-husband.

I'm right handed and right eyed.

Shooting pistol off-hand, I hold it "half gangsta." Follows the simple rule of bringing the sights to the dominant eye. Works just fine.

Have not figured out a good way to shoot rifle on the weak side. Still do best to use the weak eye, but not doing as good as I would like.

Schoolmarm is left eye dominant and right handed.  We didn’t know it until she took up CAS.

She simply learned to shoot her long guns left handed and became ambidextrous with handguns!

It was advantageous when shooting her ‘97! She can load straight into the receiver with her right hand which is much better where dexterity is concerned, and she can see the shell going into the receiver in her peripheral vision.

I am cross eye dominant also.  You just learn to work with it.

Wonder if that will change after your cataract surgery?

It has apparently changed for Schoolmarm.  I will test again later.

Same here. No biggie, you learn. Been shooting with that "handicap" my entire life.

Some might say: Improvise, adapt, overcome.

:D

Maybe that's why Rooster Cogburn wore an eye patch? :o

I'm pushing 70 so learned to shoot before there were ambi anything!! Rifles close down left eye and shoot right handed as controls on an AR are or were rt handed only. Handguns shoot right handed but close down rt eye and move my body slightly to the right. I shoot a modified weaver and have never had an issue. Actually had slots to multiple IPSC limited nationals doing so.

Every week I shoot with lodge brothers.
I'm training myself to load and unload my revolvers and pistol by feel only.

Also training myself to SASS load my revolvers:  #6, skip 1, #2..#5, advance one click so the empty cylinder is under the hammer.

I figure this can come in handy if I ever have to shoot blind, or reload in the dark.

It’s best to shoot long guns from the shoulder that matches the dominate eye.  If you want to shoot from the other shoulder it’s better to put some clear tape on your glasses to slightly blur the dominate eye so the non-dominate can take over.  Fully patching an eye messes with the dilation of the pupil.

That will be interesting to see.  I also had to teach myself to use my long guns left handed.  The arthritis in my right shoulder is so severe, I couldn't even stand the suppressed push from the long guns.  I haven't shot cowboy in so long, I'll have to re-learn everything, if we ever get back into it.

I started out doing your SASS load method until I had a high primer. Now I just load 5 rounds and spin the cylinder and then locate the empty hole under the hammer.

Load 5, then rotate 5 clicks, close the loading gate, bring to full cock, and then lower the hammer on the empty cylinder. Works to find high primers every time.

Works both ways. I've known some kids that were little hellions that grew out of it and are now worth their weight in gold. and I've known some straight A students that as adults aren't worth the powder it would take to blow their brains out.
