Alpo
Abby, one time, said that she had done away with paper mail. If it didn't come email, she didn't have anything to do with it. For some reason that just popped into my mind, and I started figuring. All of my bills, except the water and garbage bill, can arrive in my email. I prefer it to come by paper, but the option is there. But the water bill is paper only. Good thing she don't live in my town. She'd get off awful thirsty. I have a choice of several picker uppers for trash. Recycling needs to be driven to the Recycle Center. Both options charge for trash at about $7 per bag under 30#. J-BAR #18287
AT&T sent me an email and a letter about having a data breach and losing my confidential information, and urging me to contact the credit bureaus to avoid a problem. Then they sent an email asking for my credit card number so I could pay online and go paperless.

Alpo
2 hours ago, Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 said: Garbage bill? You don’t have municipal pickup? Do you have a choice among the picker uppers? It's all one bill - water, sewage, garbage. I went back and reread my original post, and I understand your confusion. I was on a job one time down in Castleberry (that's a suburb of Orlando), and 10 of us took out a short-term lease on a house. Utilities were included in the rent. So the first week we were there I asked the neighbors when the trash pickup was, and that day I had the garbage out at the street when we went to work and it was still there when we come home. Because garbage was not part of the utility bill. You had to contract that with the garbage picker upper. I had never heard of such a thing. Everywhere I had ever lived, the garbage pickup was part of the water bill.
Blackwater 53393
Our trash collector is a private company. The power is provided by a Co-Op. The water is provided by a local utility from a nearby town. We’re semi-rural, so there’s no natural gas or sewer system. My monthly utilities cost me right around $200.00, depending on usage and not counting telephone/internet. My yearly property tax is among lowest in the state and probably in the nation!! Trash pickup is about $7.00 a week. They supply the containers and there’s no size or weight limit! I require ALL billing to be hard copy. No paperless!!!
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
My utility service bills are set up with autopay. The only mail correspondence I receive is notifications for annual meetings and ballots for board members. Exceptions: My home and auto insurance company sends hard copy "proof of coverage" for my vehicles every six months. This morning I was very pleasantly surprised at the P.O. by my annual patronage summary from the local phone/internet provider...along with a check. Too bad the LGS is closed on Mondays! Badlands Bob #61228
We have private trash haulers in my area. It runs $25/month and I pay them for 6 months at a time. The internet, cell phones, Netflix and Direct TV are all auto pay via credit card because the price doesn't fluctuate. Everything else is paper bill and gets paid with electronic bill pay. The only time I write a check anymore is for taxes and state match application fees.

Alpo
I got what I thought was an electric bill yesterday. I wondered what was going on because my electric bill usually shows up about the 22nd. It was not an electric bill. It was a letter from my electric company trying to persuade me to go paperless. Send me a paper letter telling me to go paperless. That's just ---- weird? Jack Spade
I get requests to go paperless all the time but I prefer paper bills. I get them all the time from the bank requesting I go to paperless statements. My problem with this is if I have to go back and try to find a check or a charge from over a few months ago the bank wants to charge me $3 just to open the statement electronically. I will stick to my paper thank you very much!

What's in it for you is the security of a 21st Century method of transacting business that is vastly safer for all parties involved, not to mention much simpler. I keep checks in my drawer at work for signing up for cowboy matches. Other than that, if I can't pay electronically or with cash in person, I don't do it. Paying the bill costs me nothing. If the power company and water department want to send me an email bill and save the cost of printing and postage, then they should at least split the cost savings with me. Otherwise, I'll be waiting for my paper bill in the mailbox.

watab kid
yes , mone all offer paperless - but none are totally that way , some send me extra stuff every couple months and all include a lot of disclaimers and privacy notifications of why my personal info is not private , between that and the junk mail we are far from paperless
Pat Riot
I forgot to mention that we agreed to paperless in SoCal at the last place we lived there. One day my wife wanted to dispute a charge. She was told to call another dept within the utility. That dept had you leave a message. After a week we got no call back. She called again and got a human. The person told her she called the wrong place and gave her the right number. She called and requested copies of the past three months of billing and payments. She got an envelope a week later that had all the billing info but not our payments to them. Grrrrrrr It took a month to straighten out for a $68 error on their part. Screw ‘em and screw paperless. Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
Occasionally I get an email, “we sent you $5”. And I get it as an electronic credit somewhere. I guess you could call that a paperless $5 bill. I got $33.52 refund electronically also when I cancelled xfinity. I could have opted for a check by mail which could have take a couple weeks. Idaho Gunslinger
Some of my bills give me a discount for going paperless. I seem to recall there was one a few years ago that was actually going to start charging to continue sending me paper copies if I didn't go paperless by a certain date. As a millennial I'm just fine with paperless. Less papers for me to store in the filing cabinet or burn later (Wife won't let us just throw those things away). I use an app on my Phone/Laptop to track all of my finances anyway so I have a digital copy of all of my electronic transactions/monthly budget. It seems like they were dirt cheap 15-20 years ago. I just bought some a few months ago and it was something like 75 cents per check for the ones without the duplicate paper! The ones with duplicates were almost a $1 each. I assume it's because people hardly write checks anymore so we lost the economy of scale.
