Utah Bob #35998 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Now I know about cowboy hats but not much about Fedoras. I picked up this Bordalino for 50 bucks at an antique store. Like new condition. So I read up on the company. The oldest luxury hat maker in Italy. I could have got it from Amazon… for $350.00! Big win. And I feel like Bogart when I put it on. Or maybe Cagney. He’s short.
Rip Snorter Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I think JFK was the deathknell of hats. In the 50's, my recollection is that men generally wore them, particularly business men and professionals. You got a beauty.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Palermo! You look like Marlin Brando in The Godfather when he was out in his garden.

Your right, JFK hated hats, but my father continued wearing hats be it church, ball games, going out to restaurants, etc. Even before he passed away in 2008 dad always wore a hat. When they became old or worn, he turned them into his farm hat. The only time I ever saw dad wear a cap, was when he borrowed mine when we were building a new barn.

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 You do know, don't you, that the Fedora was named after the female star of an opera and wasn't worn by men for a a few years after in came out? BTW, mine are gray (my favorite) and navy blue.
Lone Spur Jake SASS #7728 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 When any of yusa guys comes a to Sicily to see me, dona' foget to kiss a my ringa first.
DeaconKC Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Check in over at The Fedora Lounge. Hats galore and almost as friendly as this place.
Blackwater 53393 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 I have a couple of fedoras, but this is my favorite!
Red Gauntlet , SASS 60619 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Borsalino, not Bordalino... A great company, and that's a great hat. I've worn hats since my early 20s, and starting a few years back I started buying better brands. Borsalinos are right up there. I have three good fedoras, one grey, one black, and one a brown very similar to yours. All three are Stetsons; the grey is 'fur felt'; the black and brown are 100% beaver. So happens earlier today I ordered a Stetson Panama. Most Panamas in my view get fairly beat up after a few seasons, bu the good felt fedoras last forever. I've bought all of my fedoras from Delmonico Hatters in New Haven, CT. Family owned since 1908. Great individual attention. Bob, you got one great deal on that hat.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 After I got out of the Army, I rarely wore a hat. Lemme see, coaching softball, cooking at CIA, in Siberia in winter (an ushanka of course). And SASS.

Alpo Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 The nerve of him. Use your police detective skills Bob. Track him down, find out who he is that done it, then horse whip him. Maybe he'll know not to put them two letters together next time.
Pat Riot Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 So JFK is the reason men quit wearing hats? Did a search. Found some interesting information. JFK seems to be part of it. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/aug/24/when-and-why-did-men-stop-wearing-hats Same as above but made into an article. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/aug/29/readers-reply-when-and-why-did-men-stop-wearing-hats THIS article dispels the urban legend that JFK wielded fashion power and was the death knell for hats. The reasons in this article seem a whole lot more viable as to the reasons hats fell out of favor in popularity. https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/men-stop-wearing-hats/ There are a bunch of sites out there with theories on this.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I thought Fedora was Samantha's mother on Bewitched.
Subdeacon Joe Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I'd neve4r heard the JFK thing before. He wore a top hat to his inauguration, removed it for the ceremony and speech, and then wore it afterwards.
