Rye Miles #13621 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I know I would have loved to have been a cowboy. I always wanted to be a cowboy. I think I woulda enjoyed owning a ranch with cattle and horses . Yep, I woulda been a cowboy! How about ya'll????? Bartender, store clerk, lawdog, outlaw, stage coach driver? Saloon gal, seamtress, cowgirl???
Pit Bull Tex Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Blacksmith,I do a little of it now.I love to make things.
Apache Hawk 60642 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Well , I wood like to be a half breed , (just like now) but wif a ranch. And wif a understandin' wif da Apache dat ifin' dey let me use their childrens land, I wood let'em have a beef when ever dey need it. Kinda keepin' to me ownself , but takein' a stand when things' aint rat. To me, dat wood be heaven !!!
Loophole LaRue, SASS #51438 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I suspect that I would have followed the trade of my great granfather in that time.... Cigar maker. LL
Apache Hawk 60642 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I suspect that I would have followed the trade of my great granfather in that time.... Cigar maker. LL On da white mans side , my Great Grandpaw was a moon shiner... And my Grandpaw was one , so I guess it still runs in da family !! ( Git it.....still....moon shiner....funny uh..... )
Cope Daniels Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I would probably be a store clerk because I work for a retail drug store now but I would rather be on the open range or own a saloon. It all sounds like work but the change would be nice.
Blackwater 53393 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 In my early years I'd probably be a train engineer. probably by the time I reached forty I'da been dead or a cripple. The miracles of modern medicine are the only reason I'm here now and walkin' around. If not that then a lawman or an outlaw. Too dang lazy to do much else.
Tom Foolery U.S.M. #2348 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Seein as I retired from ATT a few years ago, I might have worked for Western Union back when. TF
DocWard Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Lawyer? Doctor? Military? I don't know, but it seems those could be likely since I'm a lawyer, a medic and in the military now. I wouldn't want the life of a cowboy, too much work for too little pay. Owning a ranch, still hard work, but at least the pay would be a bit more to my liking. My grandfathers were coal miners, so maybe a prospector?
Okie Sawbones, SASS #77381 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 According to Wildcat, a buffalo chip...
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 A riverboat pilot. Like Mark Twain.
Grizzly Dave Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I'd have been a jack of all trades, master of none, mountain man, cowboy, bartender, blacksmiths helper, livery man, lawman, miner, making just enough to get by. Might have even been a horse holder at Madam Orrs. Okie, c'mon now, you know you'd have been a brothel owner.
Doc Cherokee, SASS#48332 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I would have not made it past being an infant if not for modern medicine.. And sometimes circumstances will affect what direction one takes in life.. But had I lived back in the day, I would have probably lived among the Indians, or had my hair lifted by them..I would have been one of those who wanted to explore the mountains and plains, see what's past the next peak or horizon..Mountain man, scout, tracker, Buffalo hunter, doubt I would have been a townie or lawman, but who knows?..Probably would have wound up either scalped or hung..
Lazarus Longshot, SASS #44254 Life Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Since I'm 60, probably dead from old age!
J.D.Ironsmith Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Think I would be shoeing horses... (kind'a like I do now)... biggest differnce would be I would be heating my steel with a coal forge instead of propane!

Long Branch Louie Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I woulda probably been the town drunk (hence the name Long Branch Louie), but more than likely I woulda been on Boot Hill after being drunk and drawing on an 1880's version of Red River Ray....

Marshal Dan Troop 70448 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Because of my wandering, and moving around a lot, a drifter. MT
Easy Emily SASS #73673 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Well I probably would have been a school marm or a seamstress.
Sneaky Gun Runner SASS 79775 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Rich! I know a lot about what is gonna happen so I would have already invested in Wal-Mart and bought a lot of prime Texas oil land.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 If UB's list didn't get me first I'd have likely been a store keeper or a trader, maybe a teacher. Teaching seems to run in my family.
Bama Red Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Assuming I made it to adulthood, which according to UB would be highly unlikely, I'd probably been what I was/am in this life. Either a saloon owner or a sheriff/deputy/marshal. Come to think of it, those occupations are liable to get you dead, too!!
Finagler 6853 Life Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I'd probably be following in the family business as a teamster hauling freight. That's what grand dad and great grand dad did in the old country. That or I'd be a hired hand on the ranch fixin' and taking care of what ever needed to be done.
Okie Sawbones, SASS #77381 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Cholera victim Dysentery victim Smallpox victim... The spirit of Augustus McCrae is haunting you now for forgetting gangrene.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 The spirit of Augustus McCrae is haunting you now for forgetting gangrene. If anything would have gotten infected, I'd have eaten my barrel first.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Havin' a bright, cheerful day today, are we, Bobby? LL Just splashing a little cold historical reality on our Hollywood daydreams. As they say...Life's hard in the West.
Spooky Joe, SASS #24061 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Assuming I lived past my teens (highly unlikely 'cause like most teens I thought I was immortal and/or indestructible) I probably would have either been a saloon/brothel owner or an outlaw.
Grizzly Dave Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Yup, life expectancy out west back then wasn't very long. Most of us would have been buzzard food.
