Tell Me About Branson, Missouri

Recommended Posts

They both got jobs there and are moving from Arizona. He’s a big bass fisherman so I’m thinking he’ll be pretty happy. I’ve heard how bad the traffic can be at times and it has 4 seasons too. Mrs. Lose is hinting that we ought to check into it to relocate. Would the Springfield area be a better choice to live in instead of near Branson or right in it? Any thoughts?

Come and visit, see for yourself.  We are happy in Springfield, 30 minutes north of Branson, but I can understand wanting to be closer to your family.  Property in Branson will be higher priced than Springfield, but easily affordable after the sale of your California real estate.  Traffic is bad around show time on the highway 76 strip, otherwise nothing like California.

I hope they like Country music.

Springfield would be my choice for sure. Nice town. Nice people. My aunt and a cousin live there. They love it.

I agree with Springfield as well.  IIRC, OLG lives in that area also.

Wait! We are trying to outline the positives here. No need to scare people off.

For OLG

This is true but there are some alternate routes around the area to bypass a lot of the traffic, I believe they are Yellow route, blue route and maybe 1 or 2 others, some may not be labeled as such.

I used to brag about MO. but not in recent years.

Besides the Branson explosion, it seems over the last several years more and more people from the really expensive states are moving there which is making it harder for us to find 60-100 acres at the not long ago reasonable prices like I expected to 😞

Also research Nixa, Ozark, Republic, and Rogersville, Mo; smaller communities adjacent to Springfield.  Lawdog and Shortcake chose Bolivar, Mo., about 30 minutes north of Springfield.  Lots of choices around, particularly if you start looking in northern Arkansas (Harrison, Mountain Home, and the Bentonville-Rogers-Springdale corridor).

We’re going to be out there in December, I’m told to celebrate my 70th birthday and will do some looking around and might even have time to look you up.

Over 60 years ago, the road to Branson area, was twisted,  hilly, and narrow.  We staid in a cabin in Kimberling City. Silver Dollar City was only a small fraction of what it is today.  Pretty much the first little plaza of a dozen little shops,  the blacksmith shop, and so on.  There was the Sheppard of the Hills cabin and I think they were putting on a play. None of the music halls,  etc.  We've been back a couple of times. Took the kids and later grandkids.  Not been back in last 15 years.

Delighted to assist.

When we decided to escape our state I got some good advice from @Utah Bob #35998. "Don't be in a hurry, take your time."

We looked for two years in 11 states, and landed in rural Polk County, just outside of Bolivar.

Numerous factors went into this decision, as we were literally leaving where we were born and raised.

Far too many things to type here, but if you are going to be at Bordertown this year, we can chat over a bite or two.

Since we are both camping trailer owners, you will like this. Missouri has a permanent trailer plate for $58.50.

Plus it is cool living close to @J-BAR #18287.

If you still have my email, drop me a line. Or PM anytime.

It really is a nice place to live.

We live in North Central Arkansas, having escaped from Illinois. We have loved the Branson area for decades, visiting there a couple times a year.

We have been contemplating MO for a while now. My brother has the timeshare at BassPro complex there in Branson and goes 3 or 4 times a year and is always saying how great it is. He wants to move there but his wife is holding him back because she doesn't want to leave her grandkids. We hope to get up there sometime this fall and check some areas out.

Branson is a weekend getaway for us. I fing a short term rental gets me a couple bedrooms and a kitchen that ends up costing us less than it would if I had to book 2 hotel rooms.

Also a great way to see the different areas around town. It's hilly terrain and rivers lakes and creeks can make I see that store 200 yards away a 20 minute drive to get their in places.

Summer humidity can be a bit much.

Lots of rain. You don't need sprinkles.

Constitutional carry here.

Buy a gun, walk out with it....

Branson traffic on weekends can be heavy.

Check out Bear Creek Volunteers SASS club, just north of Branson.

Cost of living is so much less in Missouri.

People are much nicer.....

Yes, leave Commiefornia behind, sure glad we did!

The state is very pro 2nd Amendment.

I got our utilities bill in the mail today, for  June 7 through July 10.  It's the highest bill we've had in 18 months.  ( It was HOT, used more electricity for AC than usual). Today's bill for water, gas, electricity, and sewer is $344.18 total.

All the other bills for the last 18 months were under $300.

How does that compare?

"Buy a gun, walk out with it."

That was a bit of a shock without the 72 hour wait that has made Illinois (Chicago)the pinnacle of peace and tranquility.

I remember making a "multi" gun purchase at Bass Pro, and both of us walking out with guns after the credit card cleared.

We both felt kinda naughty and kept looking around to see if anyone was watching.

Takes a while to get used to.

Well I do have solar so my electric bill is about $55.00 per month and we don’t have anything on gas except the central heating because we heat with a wood stove. Water runs us about $160.00 per month and trash pickup  is $100.00 per month so not a lot of difference. Without solar our electric would probably be in the $1,300.00 to $1,800.00 per month.
