All of mine are online with CA law enforcement along with my personal data, weight and eye color, on a 24x7 basis.

 

I have a safe queen Savage 243 varmint rifle.  It looks great on ballistics but is a real barrel burner when loaded up to its full potential.  I went with a 223 single shot for high volume prairie dog hunts instead as it is much more barrel friendly.

 

Don’t really want or need anything else.

But that's an excellent reason. In '99, when Y2K was going to happen and the banks would fail and computers would die and airplanes would fall out of the sky, and the country would be taken over by blue helmets and mutant zombie bikers, we would have to resupply our ammunition from the bodies of our dead enemies. And I didn't have a 9 mm. The horror!!

 

And that's why I got my first 9 mm.

 

That's also why I got my first 40 - not Y2K, but simply because I didn't have one.

 

"I ain't got one of those" is a most excellent reason to buy anything - especially to buy a gun.

One of my clients has exactly this.
Complete with heavy steel cable in the walls to prevent cutting from the outside.

There's a local Cowboy shooter that I know that told me when he was designing his house, he actually built it around a room size gun safe.

My father used to say he'd like to do that, but he never did.

I know someone who IS doing it, but it's lot more complicated than you may think.  You might assume that you just put a vault style door on the room in question.  That would be a faulty assumption.  (At least, it would be here in Massachusetts.)  First, the room must have no windows.  Okay, that actually makes some sense.  BUT, beyond that, you have to "upgrade" the walls so that a crook can't smash through them.  I mean, sure, with the right tools, anyone can cut through anything, but you've got to make it so that the walls are at least "hand tool" proof.

He told me that it wasn't just a room with a Big Door, it was an honest to goodness vault room. I think block walls, the whole thing an inside room with the rest of the house built around it.

 A competitor at the shooting club had a poured room with an outward swinging vault door, then a fire set off all his reloading powder.  The pressure wave broke the house off the foundation.   His new house has a room with thicker reinforced concrete and an inward swinging door the engineer claims will contain a blast.

Somehow, I think I would prefer a design that allowed internal pressure to be released (like a powder locker), rather than trying to contain it (Kaboom)

I have a friend that built a "safe room" that is about 20' x 50'. All the walls were laid as large concrete blocks that had double rebar threaded throughout and then concrete poured into. Built on top of bedrock and with iron bars above the ceiling. Large metal safe door leads to the master bedroom but is hidden behind an interior wooded door. Also uses it as a safe room for tornados.

 

You could still get in that room, but it wouldn't be easy!

How to know if you got too many guns:

If you dropped a gun when you were younger, you just picked it up.  When you're older and you drop a gun, you stare at it for just a bit contemplating if you actually are going to use it anymore.

It might have pressure valves in the new one, I've not been in the new one.  This one was built underground adjacent to the foundation instead of under the house in the basment like the first one
